Danetropolis is not a futuristic or post-apocalyptic megalopolis populated by banter-spouting super-people, rather it is a glimpse into the allegedly self-centered universe of creator David Daneman, whose Danecentrism is evident in the simple fact that 99.9% of the time, he is every person in every strip. These eight comics fairly represent what one can expect from any single Daneman strip: an ironic and muted sense of humor, the pantomime style of storytelling, and, at their centers, little morsels of truth. -------------------------- Originally, the concept of using myself as model for characters grew out of necessity. Those bearded guys wearing shirts and ties were mere stick figures in my mind, but as time went on, the gimmick evolved and took on meanings never anticipated in the earliest strips. For instance, when characters are rude or short with one another, it symbolizes the fact that people frequently find themselves on both sides of that transaction. On any given day, we are all the annoy-er and the annoy-ee. My strips tend to be inspired by very simple things such as puns, aphorisms or ordinary objects and it is my hope that when you combine a philosophy of simplicity in writing with a heavily non-verbal style of storytelling, you'll get a strip that dances across language barriers.
