Slighted again and again by the arrogant leadership of Olympus, Pan conspires with Hades to bring five Athenian women back from the underworld. Reborn as terrible spirit warriors, the women begin to make their way to Mt. Olympus in an attempt to storm the gates of the city and to destroy Zeus. Meanwhile, to increase his power, Pan seeks to recruit additional allies from the surviving Titans, with his offer of revenge upon the ruling class of Gods that overthrew them so long ago.

Interesting story here.
I like your use of the panels, thats probaly the most eye catching element of your work that has caught my eye.
People would obviously say the Art/Story,but its always important to understand how your character and scenes are going to move within the the peace you want them to.
Though I somtimes find the Art work abit buissy ie maybe a slight overalaberate use of details and textured areas, its also eye catching to ( I think page 6 is just about right in the balance you need in creating bold, sharp work but not overly fussy in compicating the panels).
The scroll idea adds to the whole movement of the scene and idea to which you have created the work, though maybe it would have been better had it been hand drawn rather than looking very Photoshop-y.
But overal the character work is very good, you have captured the expression of the female figure really well.
I look foward to its development.4D.
Nancy and furman,
...
Congratulations to your comic, best of luck in 2009!
Hope to see more of your works soon.
Furman and Nancy,
Nice comic. Really cool. Hope to see more of your work in the future.
Hey Furman and Nancy, a very nice looking comic and I also enjoyed your previous entry as well, best of luck in 2009!
Nancy and furman,
I love the ink work as I said before. Congrats on a nice comic and I'll have an eye out for any future entries from you. Best of luck in 2009.
Adam
Furman and Nancy Leslie, congratulations on excellent work. Well done this month. Here's to a Happy 2009! Best! - Rob
I thought this was an awesome story, I'm just begging for more!
As with your other comic I love the art work. The sequentials are great. I do agree that the scrools detract from the over all look but not for the same reasons. They look fake or plastic comared to the rest of the page almost like they were pulled from a clip file. The story is great so far and just like the other i'd like to see/ read more.
Dear Zuda Competitors/Creators,
I’m the creator of the Zuda fan blog, and I would love to interview all of this month’s creators. If you would be willing to answer 5-10 questions, to be posted on the Zudafan blog, please contact me at: zudafan@gmail.com.
Feel free to check out the blog: zudafan.blogspot.com
Thanks!

It's like you needed two more pages to wrap this up into a nice little fantasy short... Okay, first off: This strip is gorgeous but also silly and pointless. It reminds me of a nice Heavy Metal (magazine) piece or something from one of PC Comics' old anthology books. Art aside, the story certainly creeps along at a snail's pace, and I'm not convinced that in a year we'd be any farther along than the same old gobbledygook seen here already. It's a style thing; I get it. Some things SHOULD be style over substance, and I'm not necessarily faulting you for that; just making an observation. Also, yes, page 6 is jarringly less detailed than the rest of the issue, and while I didn't mind the text boxes in theory (what filled them was interesting enough and necessary...), my god those "scrolls" were ugly as ****. Perhaps in a 70's-ish pen and ink fantasy story, fancy computer-shaded scrolls might have been a bit too noticable. Otherwise, A for effort, and props for getting in some nudity.
This is my favorite this month. Beautiful artwork and writing. I am sucker for top-notch pen and ink. You have my vote!
Interview is up.
Gorgeous artwork! Dig the mythological setting, too. I'm not 100% on the captions--clever idea, but they sort of stand out from the rest of the art. But that's a quibble--great entry.
Wonderful as always furman. 4/5 stars and only because of the large amount of white on page 6. Kinda threw me off after the amount of detail in the first 5 pages. Story seems to be interesting. I always liked mythology based stories. Best of luck.
Thanks folks and special thanks to RKB who always takes a lot of time on everyone. As far as my ranking RKB it is very hard to promote yourself in Cambridge every other person seems to have published a book or is a well known artist. I am the norm in this area not the exception so to get even a few votes is tough. I have talked everyone who has walked into my door this month to vote as well as all the people who live in my 'art commune' house but that has only added up to a dozen votes maybe. I just do not have time for anything else because I am so busy doing art. Did post flyers but no real response. I think it is very tough for a b+w fantasy to go anywhere...
Your art is outstanding! I like the old conan-esque feeling, the Pan design also is scary!
Dang, I really thought I posted here already. Anyhow- very nice melding of art and text. The B&W is top notch and the story flowed smoothly for me. I didn't even realize I hit page 8 until it was too late ;)
hey! this is really nice! the art is unstoppable and the story isn't the most original but has plenty of potential to be awesome! couldn't let the "lound" go, though. sorry, pet peeve.
I liked Alone okay, it didn't really grab me, art was cool, but the text drove me mad. A single soul gets a fav from me and 5/5 stars. Not only is the art here even more impressive, but for the most part I thought the text boxes were handled well enough, and the mythology story is new to Zuda and really grabbed my interest. I'm not even going to gripe about the lack of color, because the black and white here really gives it a classical/ really really old book illustration look to it, which I really enjoyed. I think most B&W comics on Zuda would look better in color, but their are exceptions and a single soul is one of them.
*********************************************************
SCREEN 1 You and everyone else by now knows I hate text boxes, but with the way you set the story up here you pretty much had to use them. The image of Pan and the sisters was really stunning, and the text along with it wasn't too much, and did a damn fine job of letting you know what this story was going to be about. You did more with screen 1 than some Zuda comics have done in 8 screens and a synopsis. As an aside, your synopsis was very well written too by the way. Very impressive across the board great job Furman and Nancy. Font was easy to read, good call there.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 2 I got worried with all the text on this screen, you pushed the edge but didn't go over my limit. I thought this screen actually did a lot to move the story along, and the images were fairly interesting.
*****************************************************
SCREEN 3 No text, a silent screen good call, sound effects would have been nice, but not really needed. After the text heaviness of screen 2 this was a nice break and change of pace. I also thought you did the sequential art of the woman being formed very well. It really does remind me of the best 80's B&W comics as far as art goes.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 4 Fantastic art, I love the layout of this screen. Question time: Why the text of with her final choked breath... it would have been nice to see a sfx: cough sound effect here, to go alone with the text. Even better you could have not had any text at all and just including some cough/gasping sound effects. If you would have just made this a silent screen and let the reader infer the first breath thing I would have liked it better than the text. This panel reminded me most of your last submission, if you can show it, why tell it??? In this context: 'and with her...' read more like novel prose than a modern day comic book caption.
************************************************************
SCREEN 5 Okay lots of text here, with very little impact on me the reader. If you would have shown flash backs images of her life to go along with the narrative it would have went better, instead it's a low intensity pin up shot.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 6 Yes the character is talking!!! Her words seem pretty disjointed which makes sense seeing as how she just got formed, good insight into what must be her confused character. Good art here too.
*******************************************************
SCREEN 7 Damn!!! Very impressive art here, and screen layout. I liked the skull looking cave she goes into, and your take on Pan is very impressive.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 8 In panel 1 she already walked into the cave so is she walking into the cave again, or walking into another chamber or what?
***********************************************************
It would have had more impact as a ending if you could of had the introduction between her (she needs a name:)), and Pan happen on the 8th screen, stopping with the fight left the story feeling really cut off. I did really enjoy the fight scene, nice action element here, it was really missing from your last comic.
***********************************************************
Over the moon thrilled to see you back Furman with such a impressive comic. You should be ranked higher than you are.
Schultz huh? That is a real compliment. Thank you. I certainly studied Williamson, Frazetta, Wood and the rest for a solid year or more :) I feel that accurate perspective and anatomy are very important in any medium.
The art is breath-taking. I'm reminded of Mark Schultz ("Xenozoic Tales"). The story is truly ambitious and larger than life. Excellent job! I do agree with kingofsnakes about the color, though... it looks great in B&W, but you don't have to stick exclusively to black and white. Think of the things Miller did with Sin City. Occasional color can have a great impact.
With an open end, there is a natural draw for the reader. Nicely done. The graphics are simultaneously scary and beautiful. Nice combination. Keep up the great work. I look forward to more...
I really like the ink work. Not sure I like the dialogue boxes, but still a really solid entry. I wish you the best of luck. :)
For some reason this just looks unfinished to me. I think its just the lack of color but the drawing is impressive.
Nancy and furman,
story shows much promise, art reminds me of old masters like Rembrandt...wow ! I could stare on every panel for hours. Good luck!
Fantastic art, reminds me of Father Shandar in Warrior. Interesting story , definitely one of the best.
Wow! This is beautifully inked. Reminds me of D&D back in the eighties... Fantastic opening page, couldn't have done a better page. I keep trying to find something hidden in your work, almost as if you put something in there and wanted to know if anybody would notice, however, when you start looking too close, then I question what happened on page 2 around the trunk of the tree? Is it from a light source? And of coarse there is page 6, which is good but not the same detail as all the others. Still, absolutely wonderful work. I'm a sucker for fantasy stuff, love drawings of monsters and the unknown. Good luck this month!
uhh... hello! WTF?! This is rocking like a hurricane. Amazing!
Ptimony, love your work, maybe next year u and I should brainstorm and see where it goes...

Hi. You may of read my mini-reviews on my blog, but I'd like to conduct interviews with all of this month's Zuda creators through a series of e-mails (as so it wouldn't be the same interviews over and over again, I don't want to step on Zuda Fan's shtick or anything) over a course of time. Ultimately to be put up on my blog. If you are interested: bryymiller@gmail.com
Nice work, your use of value and composition are quite good. Good luck.
This is epic. There is so much work in these pages and the pacing is great. good luck!
Hey Furman, I must admit, I enjoyed your painted comic more, but this is also very good! It's nice to see some realistic female figures, and you're so generous with them too! I favorited you.
The art is astonishing and the story holds much promise. I'm a bit disappointed you did not design the eight page to be a break of some sort or a cliffhanger (the comic just ends in the middle of a fight), but am very curious what will happen next all the same. So far, A Single Soul is simply a beautiful experience.
Cool style. Good luck!
Good work! Good luck!
If you like great Art, (& who doesn't?), & Mythology, (which I do), plus add a little old school sex appeal, = More Great work. (Like the scrolls, too)

review is there.
Thanks all! I always try to do something very different from the time before which is why I went w/ the b+w. Please view at full page size to really enjoy the details :)
Furman, your art is astounding and your narrative is great, too. Keep it coming, I love it.
Your art is still extremely good. I'm glad to see you've cleaned up your text. I don't know how well the black and white works. Some colors (which you're clearly talented with) to go along with these excellent inks would've really made this a strong contender. The biggest weakness is in the writing. It's a little vauge. If the whole story was in front of me that wouldn't be a problem, but with an eight page introduction then one page a week thereafter it would be better to have something a little more straight-forward. Lighter on the subtext and more of getting right into the plot. Thats really the biggest criticizm I have, that I don't think this story is appropriate for this type of medium. Other than that it's a really solid entry. Maybe I'll see it in print one day!

Just put December's batch of reviews up.
Furman, your art still astonishes me! The story you have here is by far one of the more intriguing I've seen on Zuda. The narrative was fantastically immersive.
Furman, you get them in so fast. Wow.
Very cool art. Reminds me a little of Totleben. For some reason page 6 looks less detailed and more rushed than the other pages though, which kinda breaks the spell a bit.
Nice! Awesome to see your stuff here again Furman. And that is one nice opening screen...Good luck mate!
welcome back furman. love the pen and ink!
Welcome back, Furman!
