My Daddy's a Super-Villain!
When Magnor burned Inifintoplis to the ground and killed all its heroes, he never thought his charter would be revoked. Ten years later, he's all washed up, living in a dilapidated house with no money and a half-empty case of beer.
And that's when he former assistant dumps Shelby Wyman, their ten year-old son, off on him.
Max has got to get rid of this kid before he has to start being a dad and stuff. But killing heroes is one thing, killing kids...not worth the trouble. So, what'll bring down the wrath of Child Services faster than nuking the city again? How about resurrecting his villainous career and making this unwanted kid his sidekick...very publicly?
As a newly invigorated Magnor and Shelby, calling himself Kid Lava, embark on a vary public crime spree, Infinitopolis's new resident hero, the Exclamation, kidnaps Shelby in an attempt to get Magnor to surrender to the authorities for a boatload of parking tickets and child endangerment.
Guilt getting the best of him, Magnor must save Shelby before the most unimaginable horror befalls him: he becomes a super-HERO'S sidekick.

Kind of the dark side of the Incredibles huh? Love it!

Thanks for all the comments and votes/faves we received this month! It's been a great experience!
Damn good artwork.
I do love it.
This has a really nice, unique quality to the art style. The story is a lot of fun...
I have the same problem with your art that I do with Middle-Aged Monster. Vector/cell look is nice, but there needs to be more contrast to define the characters and the environments. And again, like MAM, I like the concept, but the writing doesn't really fit in with the rest of it.
First off I liked your previous comic better Scott, but I am impressed by the difference in subject matter here. The man of comics can tell more than 1 kind of story. The lettering is cool as well. A good synopsis too.
*************************************************************
SCREEN 1 The art is a little more cartoony than what i normally go for. Nice opening panel to set the mood, but what was up with that 1 guy';s white tie???? According to DC's guide to coloring white is the strongest color you can use in a comic, that whole negative space thing makes it stand out. The flames kind of went into the red tinted background, but the white tie stood out as an eye sore in the panel.
***********************************************************
The mayor, no ruler line was funny.
************************************************************
SCREEN 2 It seemed like a fairly light hearted and fairly kid friendly till we got to the sex scene. I know you didn't see anything, and I thought the name shout out and snort was funny, but it still sort of surprised me considering the art.
***********************************************************
SCREEN 3 I lied the perspective/ panel layout used on this screen and the you did it too fast line. Funny script/ good art, but it just didn't come together to really grab me as a reader. I did enjoy the look of the brain character.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 4 Fi-core is a funny line to me, but if you don't pay attention to things like writer strikes you probably won't get it.
**********************************************************
You should have did a comic about the Brain, I love this character and the way he talks. Can't kill all the heroes our we would be out of a job, good point for a bad guy to make, and the union thing nice touch.
***********************************************************
'Retake those job placement tests' another funny line.
************************************************************
SCREEN 5 we haven't be razed, and he is still thinking like a super villain, nice touches to his personality. The white on the glasses again stood out, and not in a good way.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 6 the writing is very good, but the art just didn't grab me jamie -sorry. It seemed too flat, not enough pop off the page, and why did you use the color white where you did.
************************************************************
Nice use of his powers to get a second look at his loan papers.
*************************************************************
SCREEN 7 the white on this screen actually made things stand out in a good way, I enjoyed the rain effects, Also THANK YOU THANK YOU, for using real thought balloons in this comic, instead of the text box imitations.
***********************************************************
SCREEN 8 The years have not been kind to the flame gal, and the way you handled the cliff hanger reveal was very good.
********************************************************
I liked the script better than the art, they just didn't seem to go well together to me, no insult to either of you it just didn't click for me. 3/5 stars.
i do not like the story and the vector style as well, but i really admit that you are brave dude! I will never end a vector comic, god, kudos to you my friend! But, any ways, i feel the story is bad, any ways your style saved you i wish you luck!

I'm not your Daddy so you'll have to make up your own mind whether you read it or not.
you guys did a exceptional work... i miss some good super-hero stories, and "my dad's a super-vilain" its something i was looking for. I liked, this submission is one of my favourite for the month. like "Problems", another comic i really liked.
This is most excellent. I really appreciate your original use of vector art to produce something as yet never seen before. Seems almost like it could be a pitch for an Adult Swim show on Cartoon Network. (That's a compliment, BTW.)
Hey Albatross! Get as many people as you can to vote for us and add us as favorites, and we'll see what we can do!
this comic is genius and has scads of potential... plz keep it going no matta what!
"we haven't been razed in 3752 days". lol. This is great stuff.
Brilliant!!! You got my vote. :-)

Thanks for the compliments, DShide. MAM is good stuff, I agree, but MDAS will go places no story has ever gone before. It's not too late! ;)
I am indeed a guy. Although I'm British, so technically I'm a bloke.
Another by the by. Inifintoplis is one of the best names for a city I have ever heard in a comic. It makes Metropolis look well..... less infinite. Kudos to you sir. Well sirs if Jamie is a guy anyway. If your not please accept my apologizes.
Pretty darn good. I like it enough, but alas it's no MAM. If it weren't for MAM you'd have my vote. 5/5 stars and a fav. MAM is the only thing keeping you from getting my vote by the by. I hope this is acceptable to you.
very much enjoy this
This is definately one of the more creative entries. I like it a lot and the main character is pretty funny, too. He's a practical villain who wants to kill off the superheroes, but doesn't think about the fact that he'd be out of a job if he did... kind of reminds me of that same instance from Venture Brothers were the Monarch kills off one of his arch nemesis and is scolded for it. Great job on story progression and fitting that all within 8 pages!
I like this. Life can be pretty tough after fallin' off the villainous wagon.
Hey everyone! Thanks for voting us up to 5th! Let's keep the momentum going and break to the top!
Ace!
Thats awesome got a incredibles meets eastenders. The styles really strong all the characters are awesome.
Thanks, Albatross!
i know i'm only halfway through the competition... and i hate jumping guns... but this comic is FANTASTIC. i would love to see where this story leads. the art helps too!
You will always be a 5 star in my eyes honey. :)
Very impressive stuff!! The artwork is fab and loved the story - keep up the good work guys!!
Love the original art style and the humour. Got to be 5 stars!
Really Fun, really Nice, I love it, I was hitting the next buttom that's a good sign.
Pretty interesting and funny, but after reading Middle-Aged Monster, it just doesn't stand up. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there seems to be some lack of contrast in the artwork that makes it all sort of muddle together. Good, but not great.
See kids? A bit of end-of-the-world-unprotected-victory-sex and bam, eight pages later your a daddy. Now go get yourself some fireproof condoms and WD-40 and you'll be set.
The vector art here is very nice.
My biggest problem I have with this story is suspending all my disbelief. The super villain council isn't unique (Venture Brothers) but the idea that they could fire someone, and that super villain would stay fired is a little hard to swallow, it doesn't make sense from a characterization standpoint. Is this guy that weak willed? He didn't need work as a super villain anymore, he was about so settle in as ruler of infinitopolis, I imagine that would be a full time job. If he's a good enough villain to kill ALL the superheros, why would he let ANYONE stop him?
I think you could've made him look a little LESS like Bob Parr too. I mean, over the hill supers out of uniform, you know the Incredibles comparison is going to pop up
Also, the writing feels SUPER RUSHED. And I don't mean that it wasn't meticulously planned but that clearly you were like "i need to get this and this and this into my eight page submission... oh and then I need to do this too because that's the crux of my story!" You just have too much to establish and not enough space to do it in. I've said this to a few other entrants, but I think you could've benefited from focusing your story during this submission, and then tell some of the other stuff later via flashback, provided you win.
Your synopsis is pretty crowded too, you just have soooo much story here, I think you could've done more work developing the world it's set in and given us less of a bulletpoint outine of events, which is how some of this feels to me. Theres this balance between story and development that is just really hard to strike in eight pages.
There are some little glimpses in the writing here and there that are really really good, but they're almost choked out by all the stuff going on it raises that inability to suspend my disbelief that i mentioned earlier. I think if you has spent a little more time on development instead of trying to cram so much story progression into the eight pages I would've had a much easier time buying into the concept and would have really enjoyed it alot more.
It's cool to see new concepts! Nice job.
Excellent artwork -brilliant storyline - can't wait to find out how it ends...!! Good work guys.
Been a fan of Jamie's work for ages online. Talented swine that he is.
Looking at this, I think he's based the lead character on himself :) (guess I deserve a slap at the Birmingham Con) LOL.
Anyways, got my vote.
MEGA!
Good stuff Jim!
Good luck lads...........Rocks like the peppers!
Very different from what I thought it would be. Very nicely structured.
Awesome! Well done. (And welcome back!)
Hi, Ptimony, that is because I am a Man of Comics! Glad you like it!
Good to see you here, Charlie. Thanks for stopping by.
Nice one! Probably the most immediately fun Zuda piece since High Moon.
Nice work. I really like the art.
Very very good. Distracted me from BBC2's 'The Hairy Bakers'.
Hey guys! Thanks for all the comments so far. Looking forward to an exciting few weeks!
Wow, this is really different from your last comic. I like it!
Congrats on another round in and nice entry!
