Hey everyone,
Just about two hours ago the Zuda Panel at the New York Comic-Con ended. Here's a quick recap, for those of you that couldn't make it to the show or the panel. In addition to an open format Q&A between the various Zuda creators and the audience where we discussed everything from art styles, scheduling, the different creators approaches to how they pace their stories, what updates fans most want from the site and more there were four significant announcements. They are:

1. SUPERTRON started its ongoing series run. But you guys knew that.

2. THE NIGHT OWLS is moving to a twice weekly schedule. Now you'll have a double-dose of NIGHT OWLS goodness!

3. The much talked about ZUDA COMICS INVITATIONAL is on! Celebrating the one-year anniversary of our announcing Zuda at the San Diego Comic-Con we're going to have a competition featuring comics from the previous years worth of non-winning comics. I'll blog about this in more detail but basically if it ran on Zuda and didn't win its eligible to participate in the Invitational. Send your picks for which comics you want to see get another shot at the brass ring to FEEDBACK (in the upper right corner there, by the login)! The Invitational will be our July competition.

4. We are happy as hell to have a new Instant Winner! That's right, Zuda Comics announced that Dean Haspiel - multiple Eisner award nominee (most recently for his work on Billy Dogma, co-founder of the webcomics collective ACT-I-VATE, artist on the VERTIGO series THE QUITTER, THE ALCOHOLIC and on Harvey Pekar's AMERICAN SPLENDOR - will have an ongoing series called STREET CODE, a semi-autobiographical story set in Brooklyn. Let me tell you, Dean's got some stories to tell! Anyway, we'll have the first screen of it up soon (give us a few hours and you'll be able to find it in EXPLORE). STREET CODE will start its ongoing run this summer. Look for it!

OK, I'm off to meet the gang for some food and drinks.
More later!

Sweet! The Invitational is great because there are a couple of strips I would love to see get a second chance!

And Night Owls twice a week? Who doesn't like that idea, eh?

No, really, who doesn't like that idea. Because me and Guido here really wanna have a talk with you about it, ya know, get your Opinion of it, if ya know what I mean...

Is there a limit to the number of picks we can submit? One, Three? Five? Nine?

Nice! The only thing better than Night Owls is MORE Night Owls!

Congrats to Dean!

Invitational? Slick! If Araknid Kid doesn't make it there, look for new pages of the picto-speakin' character that month on Sugary Serials ;)

Awesome!
More Night Owls! Woo! And Hoo!
I nominate Crooked Man, Maxy J and Sam & Lilah for the invitational.
And way to class the place up with Dean Haspiel!
I like it here.

I hope we see the next 8 screens of the comics who get picked for the Zuda invite.
You know some creators will have moved on, and probably not want to do another 8 screens, for any number of reasons. I think if some nom's don't want to go for Zuda round 2, Kwanza and company should just pick another comic to fill the slot.

How does the invitational work? Readers vote for the top ten? Are we just gonna see the same eight screens again? Are we gonna get the next eight? And if so, what if some of the nominees aren't in a position to take part this time round? What happens to all the people who have sent submissions in and are waiting for their 90 days to be up, and all of a sudden there's a whole month out of the running? Their time will be up maybe not from a quality stand point, but from a time management issue. If that's the case, I hope you inform people of that.

Didn't get a chance to say it face-to-face, Dean, but congratulations on bringing your work here to Zuda. For those of you who aren't as familiar with Dean's work (shame on you!), he's one of the founders of ACT-I-VATE, a seminal force in webcomics collectives, and they also had a big announcement at the con about changes to the format over at that site.

There's a lot of terrific energy between these two very different approaches to forming a quality webcomic catalog (plus a lot of familiar names) and, as a long time reader, I feel his work is a great addition here at Zuda.

Never mind just sending in the top ten, shoot the moon, and go for 12.
I'd like to see at least half the comics I want to comeback, comeback. It's going to be fun to see what the lineup is anyway.
Yeah, I'm more excited about what's coming up in July than anything else you mentioned. -with the Night-Owls 2 screen update's being second.

You know I'll send in a feedback Ron, but I'll say it here as well bring back the Crooked Man!!!!!!!
I'm guessing the Zuda Invitational will be a 10 comic contest like all the others so we should send in our top ten comics that should get a comeback.

Don't know much about Dean Haspiel, don't care much about auto-comics but I give everything a chance so I'll wander over to check it out.

Ron it seems like you're finally hitting your stride now. Twice weekly Night Owls and five regular comics rotating around a two week schedule equals an update every third day at most.
Congratulations Zuda. Hopefully now you can count on some regular readership instead of just us vote-minded users. Kampai!
