The Adventures of Rocki Gibraltar
Rocki Gibraltar may not have any super powers, but that won’t stop her from achieving her dream of being a superhero and breaking into the big leagues of costumed adventurers. When Rocki was seven, her mother died under what was labeled “mysterious circumstances.” Rocki was certain she had been murdered. To keep other kids from having to grow up without a mother, and to protect them from the many villains that roam Centennial City, Rocki decided to become a superhero. The only problem is she doesn’t possess any super powers. After years of secretly training herself, Rocki believes now is the time to make a difference. But much to her chagrin, Rocki continues to be stuck battling the second-rate villains and petty crooks of Centennial City. All she needs is the respect of the heroes and law enforcement, to be taken seriously by the media and most importantly to her, the attention of her father, the brilliant inventor Horatio Gibraltar. Horatio has been in seclusion, working on a strange gadget that Rocki doesn’t quite understand. Sadly, because of Horatio’s relentless work ethic, their father-daughter relationship is quite strained. However, these famous heroes that Rocki admires so all share a secret: Horatio Gibraltar. What his connection is with the superheroes is a mystery that Rocki will try to uncover. So, with the help of her best friend and computer whiz Sally Fulbright, she sneaks out of her father’s house at night to do her part to keep the city safe.

Love this, great stuff! Nice to see someone taking advantage of the serial format harkening back to the old adventure serials. Rocki is a cool character as well, got the typical teen thing going but not uber-heavy.
Hey Neighbors! I finally figured out how to VOTE!! :)
Nice work, as usual!
I am sure we will see you soon, probably on our next outing!
Dear Zuda Competitors/Creators,

Feel free to check out the blog: zudafan.blogspot.com
Thanks!
I like adventure strips that are more about fun that being grim and gritty.
Hey Gang!

Amazing Job Guys. Congratulations. :D I love this comic.
I really can't figure out why this comic is at the bottom of the list. There are definitely some really strong entries this month, but art and story wise, yours should be in with the top competitors. Sorry guys. I really feel for you. Who can figure it out?
Hello Fraim bros and Rocki fans! I love this strip. I would buy it if I saw it on the shelves, no question. It fits squarely into my personal tastes. So I decided to do some fan art - desktop wallpaper sized!

screen 1 one of the best things about this strip is the dialogue of Rocki (and all the characters) it all sounds very true to life/ how we expect heroes and villains to talk. It seems your going with the page a day style of night owls a little surprising for a super hero strip but I enjoyed it. If this was print i wouldn't complain about the black and white, but it's not. This comic would be so much better in color for all the characters. You really bring the panels, not that i mind that, because the layout was so well done. We really get to know Rocki's character esp. in panel 5 where we see the newspaper headline on the wall. No doubt this started her down the path of wanting to be a hero, aware she didn't need to be able to fly to save people.
**************************************************************
screen 2 I like the fact she breaks down the 4th wall and talks to the reader, good call on that. Seems like her dad could be the smart guy who helps out the other heroes, also seems like from the last panel he knows what she is doing.
*************************************************************
screen 3 space girl didn't get to save the day but another crime comes along -nice. Nice touch that she didn't like her name, and for everything you had going on good use of panel layout.
************************************************************
screen 4 Another really good thing in this comic besides the dialogue is D-list heroes and villains, DC and Marvel have their fair share and nice to see this aspect of superheroes play such a big part here. "okay go nuts" great line to end on, and nice tune in next time feel from screen to screen.
*************************************************************
screen 5 so she knows karate huh? Good action scene well done well drawn.
**************************************************************
screen 6 Again the D-list aspect one of the two big bright spots about the comic. Nice to see good guys and bad guys make a name for themselves.
*************************************************************
screen 7 She's a fan of the rocket ranger it was fun reading her wanting to get his autograph. Panel 6 "never heard of them" again great idea to have her talk to the readers. Ending with him knowing her dad has to mean something down the road right?
*************************************************************
screen 8 It was ironic that RR flew away then TL shows up, great scene to end on. D-list hero takes on A-list villain and maybe makes a name for herself??? Her friend helping her throughout -birds of prey meets kim possible i liked it.
**************************************************************
Art/words/letters all very good, but almost all the web comics i really like have color so that alone drops you done to 3/5 stars from me. You did get a fav which is because of how much I liked the D-list concept and the words. Please try Zuda again, but in color next time.:)
I looked at all the stories and this one seems the most interesting to me. Good job, guys.
I really like the art on this one. Very sharp.
Charming superhero comic strip. Has great pacing, clean b/w layouts, and enjoyable characterization. What more could a Zudite ask for? Good luck!
I like the style that you guys went with this comic. I wish that there were more comics that came out on this website with this stlye of drawing.
Hey Fraim Boys, I just wanted to drop a comment and let you know how much I like your comic! I also wanted to ask if you're adversing anywhere? There's a lot of webcomics out there that have a large reader base who would could help pad out the votes. For example, www.starslip.com (another daily webcomic I read by Kris Straub)is where I found an add running on the banner for Celadore. In which they were able to showcase upcoming characters and plot points that the Zuda 8 page contest didn't allow to show just yet. It hooked my vote away from Capitan Luck, and a similar cheap add in a place where people go daily for fresh comics may be the way to win! Good luck! You get 5 stars, a vote, and a favorite from me!
Hey Guys!

Thanks for the compliments! It's a real boost to our confidence, down here in the Zuda basement. ; ) We were interviewed in SCOOP last Friday about our upcoming Devil's Due series, THE ODD SQUAD, and we mentioned Rocki. That interview was also used in this past Monday's Diamond Daily retailer newsletter.

Great work, great story. superior to many of the higher ranked entrants. who knows why, I sure don't. You boys should be much closer to the top of the rankings. Good luck,
Dave
Maybe it's because I have a soft spot for superhero stories, but I have to agree with the others that you're slighted on the ratings. A great story so far and top notch art; I hope to read more soon.
Jeepers. I can't believe that you guys are in 10th place right now. This is an incredibly strong submission. You've got more story and content on one of your pages than some of your competitors have in their entire submissions. The extremely detailed background work is amazing. Hopefully you guys start to catch on in the community. Good Luck.
Hey twins, this needs to move up the ranks! Put your marketing machine to work! Good luck.
Everything always make me think of something else. This one through out a name from the very back of my brain. Brett Ewins. Early 2000AD on Judge Dredd. Not too much - just 'Pops' working in the lab! I really don't know what this is doing in 10th spot - doesn't anyone like comic strips anymore? I shall review it tonight over on www.mpd57.blogspot.com - come on over.
Thanks for reading the strip and all of your feedback! If you would like to see more of our artwork, and are interested in getting an illustration done by us, be sure to check out our commissions and rates at http://comicartcommissions.com/Fraim.html

For those of you who are interested, be sure to check out THE ODD SQUAD, a three issue limited series that we are currently illustrating. The series is about a group of paranormal investigators who are not very good at their job. Devil’s Due Publications will publish the series and the first issue will be released in September 2008. It’s written by Todd Livingston and Nick Capetanakis, and colored by Matt Webb.

oh, and while the rollerskate girl beating guys down thing might be a TAD cheeky, I can roll with it, I think it's fun. :)
I like how you draw people. very fun to look at. ;) good work.
Yer guys' story was awe-mazing! (Did anyone use that yet? [cough]) This could be really fun. I know alotta people say this about B&W books but this one seems like it needs color...but them I'm afraid it might take away the "personality"...conflicted. You know, it's fine as is. Good Luck, guys!
Dig the black and white and like the premise, but it does get a bit dense at times.
I forgot to say that I wish the clown would have just blown Rocki's brains out as an interesting plot twist. Why don't villains ever have the balls? He should have at least fired the gun, even if Rocki got out of the way, to show her that fighting crime ain't all puppies and rainbows. Shoot that bitch in the face!
Jeez, the level of detail on these pages is insane. You guys must have drawn this HUGE originally. The linework on the newscaster on the tv of the first page is so dense! That having been said, the strip is pretty, but reads like Mark Millar's KickAss as written by Stan Lee. Phrases like "Awe-Some" and "Techno Hacker" make me cringe, and I'm not quite sure what to feel about Rocki breaking the 4th wall. Maybe it would grow on me. Another thing: I know that this is supposed to be a 50's throwback, or whatever, but Rocki Gibraltar is a crappy name, and I don't know how many people are going to get the reference. I didn't hate the strip, but I did find some of it to be mildly annoying. Good luck.
ahhhhh i love it!! maybe my favorite this month. we'll see :)
Each page needs to lose one tier. It's very congested and crowded. In black and white this is very dangerous as everything tends to bleed together. Lose some of those word balloons too. It's very wordy and all those balloons had to the cramped feel of your layout. The drawing itself is a little stiff but not bad at all. It just needs room to breathe a little. The artist should be trusted more to deliver some of the information visually. Not everything needs to be related thru exposition.
VERY enjoyable work, gentlemen!
I feel like I'm back in school with all the READING. I do love the art style, though.
Really solid art here. Her "hacker" friend is equipped with a police scanner and google maps? I do like the serial format here. I think it works. Its hard for me to get behind such a lame superhero though. Seven years of karate and rollerblades is all you need to be a superhero nowadays? She feels more like Jimmy Olsen than she does Batman. Still depending on how you developed the comic that might work in your favor. I'd really rather see her get in over her head and need her ass saved pretty quick. Then be disillusioned with the whole thing. Because thats how it would really happen.
i like it a lot. it's fun, with great ideas, but sometimes there's too much information in the screens. But it's a great work! congratulations, and good luck in the competition!
Hooray for more twin creators in comics and on Zuda specifically!
Hello, Everyone!
Thanks for viewing our comic. This was a labor of love and we appreciate every comment (and vote!). We'll reply to some specific comments:
Caanan: Yes, we are the artists from WOLF BOY. It was a lot of fun to do and what you may not know is that WB has been optioned to be made into a movie!
ptimony: Yep, we're identical twins all right. We spoke with Danielle at last year's Pittsburgh Comicon and she thought we were you. Funny twin story- We met the Brothers Hildebrandt at a con several years ago and asked them if they would be interested in taking on twin apprentices. They declined. Sigh...
troylbowen: Yes, we were totally going for that classic comic strip feel. We love Caniff, Raboy, and of course, Raymond, just to name a few.
DrCapn: We were inspired by the sitcom MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE for the talking to the audience. The star of a comic speaking to the audience happens all the time with caption boxes, but we wanted to take a different approach.
Thanks again for reading the strip!

Nice art, but it seems too close to Kick Ass.
Uh... that's Girls With Slingshots... not Sligshots.
I may have been possibly warned once upon a time by a certain Danielle Corsetto who does a really great webcomic called Girls With Sligshots (http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/gws.html) that there might be a pair of twins who also do comics and they might even look like us a little and they might even be called the Fraim Boys... SO, AT LAST WE MEET.
Peter
I love the newspaper serial format of this, and Rocky talking to the audience
I enjoyed this as a throwback type comic. A fun jaunt to introduce the players. While it is a bit corny it is really nice to kind of have that old Sunday paper feel. I will have to add this one to my list of choices.
Never mind, I Googled you. TWINS! I haven't read your comic yet, but I like it already! Twins in comics unite!
Hey Fraim Boys, your drawing of yourselves reminds me of Bobby and me. Tell me, are you guys twins also?
Peter
Hey you guys did the inserts in the novel Wolf Boy, right? That was a cool book.
I really like this. SO much happening on every page.
