Mime
Mime is © Manny Trembley
Mime tells the story of a battle between two mythic gods: "Mime" (the king of the cats) and "Punchinello" (the clown god, personified by a pair of evil jesters). These two titans do battle amidst a twilight city that is the Mime's domain. Their powers are diverse: Mime uses subtle, understated trickery with catlike elegance whereas Punchinello relies on brute force and the creation of henchmen to do his bidding. When Punchinello captures the Mime and many of his cat followers, Mime is forced to escape Punch's underground lair and attempt to return to his own twilight realm.

Do I spy a M. Doughty ref?
If the left hand is the mouth, what is the right hand?...;)
Love the style.
Love it! I just wish it weren't #7 so late in the competition...
Mime is a charater we'd love to continue telling stories about. But our primary love is our webcomic, pxcomic.com
We've been doing this webcomic for 3 years.
Hopefully, Eric and I will find a way to tell more Mime-tastic stories. Scaring people into submission.
I'm a new zuda member - LOVE the comic and voted for you - will you be doing more? Great art ! Do you have a website?
Rock on!
We aim to please Geek. Thanks for coming y here to vote for us losers. It's always appreciated.
Famished, yeah. I'm on the short end of the Zuda stick twice now. Good thing I got one more idea that is even more abstract and odd that I can submit after this one. That aught to to do right? More abstract and less mainstream????
Sigh.
Sorry, Manny. I don't know what I'm doing here other than to say I voted for Frankie and was a bit sad not to see it in. Kudos on both entries!
And speaking of PSA's, remember...a mime is a terrible thing to get wasted.
Mimes are like clowns...but silent....and deadly. So Mimes are basically Fart Clowns...silent but deadly Fart Clowns *horribly confused*
Good grief, Monkey and Cowboy. Dive right into the phobias there guys - SHEESH... I honestly really like the concept, but the willies be wrigglin' all over my heebie-jeebies... I too want to know more, but I'm a-voting now!... Kick some clown butt!
The primary reason I/we chose mime was the powers he could wield. The ability for ones gestures to be weapons. The flick of a finger, a close of a door (to block someone or something), to walk up stairs into nothing, it goes on and on. Honestly, it seemed like such a powerful character that he'd be kind of a Black Bolt type character. But I also love the theatrical element. The jesters, the clowns, etc. Everything has a surreal, abstract bend to it. I also think it's highly funny that SO many people are anti-mime.I think it's one of those, "it's hip to hate mimes/clowns" things.
All those who've been actually traumatized by a mime, I apologize profusely. I mean you no nightmares.
After searching for the word of mime phobia, I have found no scientific word but I did find a large amount of hate speak about mimes. I didn't think that there was as much dislike of mimes as there is. So I have a question now, other than silence was there any other reason you chose a mime?
I still find it terribly interesting how many people hate and or fear mimes. Almost as many as clowns. I wonder if they have a word for fear of mimes. I think I'll look that up now.
Oh, sorry John. I was too busy typing random stuff.
Thanks for the props. I/we appreciate it.
Thanks to all ya'll who have pushed past this prejudice against Mimes. Mime thanks you.
I say vote Frankie. He'll leave you in stitches.
Eh? Huh?
No? Ok, fine.
Vote for someone else then. Like Mime.
Mime for President. He won't talk your ear off. He just gets things done.
Really cool vibe to the art!
Vote Maxy J, you know it makes sense! And no.
I have made a serious accusation against DUAL, go to its comments and read it! It is important!
We rocked the house moving from 8th to 7th.
How hot is that?? Not very? Oh, right.
Well, we are beseeching the help of our loyal fanbase from our pxcomic.com
Come on panda fans, give us a boost!
We need help to get up into our booster chair at Shari's (a local diner in Spokane).
We'll be more speechless if you'll do a magic trick, Criswell. Please?
Greetings, my friends! I predict this comic will drop a position, leaving the creators even more speechless! I also foresee someone losing a bet by not letting his drunken friends kick him in the groin! Farewell!
hmm. didn't mean to whine about the lack of dialogue, but yeah. having looked over the 8 frames again, i really like the art. especially page 8's ridiculous but easily quite sinister villains and our resident mime looking quite the Bruce Timm-superhero. i wouldn't fight for this one to win, but i would look at it were it to be put out regularly.
I really like this and would like to see it continue. Interesting idea and cool art.
I got a little confused what was going on in some of the panels, I guess with no words the pictures have to work extra hard to tell you what is going on.
Good luck.
Mmrowr. *lurves*
I´ve always thought Mimes are scary, and you my fears even stronger by doing this great story with such magnificent art, LOVED IT !!!!
I'm with RKB...I have no interest in mimes...so much so I waited two weeks just to look at this entry, but I like it. Cool style.
Regarding how "well" Mime would've had to do...
I'm not sure.
I think it was more a comment on the average comic reader not "getting" or desiring to "read" a comic with no words.
Of course, The Arrival is a brilliant silent book that is receiving HUGE accolades for it's brilliance and there are a others that have succeeded, but I can't disagree that a silent comic is a tough sell.
I don't buy comic books... But I might actually go to the local comic shop and request this one if it gets made.
Kudos!
-Adam
When they say sell well, how many copies of a comic do you think they were talking about, really how many issues do you have to move to make it into that league?
Ok, so it's a hair late to be jumping in here now, but it is what it is.
I've been away on a family vacation for the first 2 plus weeks of June. Bad timing? Sure, only related to this competition. It was a joyous trip. The great Minnesota is as splendid as ever.
It's a bit fun to see that people took my silence as intentional. It was and wasn't. I just simply couldn't take time away to come here much until now, what with the BBQ's and pontoon boating.
Some of you might get a kick out of this, we just put up a promo piece on our web comic site.

I am back and am able to answer questions and discuss the idiocy, er, complexity of Mime.
What? You've all left the building? No one wants to talk Mime? Ok. I hear JJ Abrams has a new show coming out in the fall.
I would speak briefly to the idea that this comic is forever silent. We never did address whether or not this is or isn't a silent comic. As of now it is. But may not continue that way. It was originally intended to be a huge silent comic and may stay that way. I don't mean to be cryptic, but this comic is a much more fluid process than is not quite stated here.
To address some of Robberry237's questions...
1-Work output? I imagine it would be scenes. But we do imagine this story as a long format story. Epic and abstract in nature.
2- Inspiration? Old timey movies and silent films as well as the batman animated influence many of you have rightly taken note of. I also am a big fan of theatre, opera, etc. SO theres some of that. I pictured this whole story on an opera stage when it was originally conceived.
3- http://pxcomic.com/
This site is probably the most well known, not well known thing we do. We've posted some 200 plus pages of content on our site and we're into the second book of PX! We don't put our names anywhere on the site but instead refer to ourselves as Art Monkey and Grammar Cowboy. It's a really stupid not so good secret.
We've had PX! published through Image in a collected trade as well as a six issue mini-series called Sam Noir- Samurai Dectective. That one is also collected into a trade. Recently we were nominated for two Eisner awards for PX! Book One. "Best Digital comic" and "Best Teen publication".
Fun stuff.
4- Mime was originally pitched in a standard comic format, and rejected at Image because, wait for it, a silent comic wouldn't sell well. LOL
Oh, well.
I'm around now, so if any one actually wants to talk now, I'm here. yay.
This is amazing and it has my vote. I don't think people realize how hard it is to manage telling a story or developing characters using only sequential art. It makes me feel like other comics are cheating when they write more than they draw out. Very original. And for the naysayers and "what the hell's going on"-ers...there's a synopsis and then the art does the rest of the storytelling. What are you whining about? Use your head for once and you'll learn to appreciate creativity.
to quote a kid from one of those G.I. Joe PSA's...
"Uhhhhh what the Hell?"
this one throws me off. it might be the lack of dialogue (which i can handle sometimes), it might be that i have no idea what's going on(who's fighting who, what/who are these 'who' we're speaking of, etc), it might even be that i'm just not a big fan of mimes.
either way, the art's really nice and i think i can see what you're shooting for, and it's a cool idea, i just don't think lots of people are ready for that innovation. good work, though.
This certainly brings the weird (in a good way), but I agree with others who've commented on a certain amount of confusion regarding the story. I like the notion of telling it silently, but since you set up the title card idea at the beginning, it might be wise to throw another one in there somewhere just to clarify what's going on.
Still, very well done.
Dear Zuda Competitors/Creators,
I recently started a Zuda fan blog, and I would love to interview all of this month’s creators. If you would be willing to answer 5-10 questions, to be posted on the Zudafan blog, please contact me at: zudafan@gmail.com . I’ll try not to repeat any of Rob Berry’s questions. :)
Feel free to check out the blog: zudafan.blogspot.com
Thanks!
Love the concept of the character and the art.
I can understand the creators playing the silent-mime role. But I think it's really hurting y'all. Not speaking about your decisions on artistic choices, where do want the story to go and hell maybe even marketing/pimping yourselves, is self defeating. I love this comic and I think the big part of why it's sitting at 8th is because of the disconnect with your audience. C'mon guys- SPEAK! I'm tired of having the comics I vote for not come within the top 3. To me, this deserves to be at least in the top 5.
The art is gorgeous!
Amazing art, good story. Best luck!
i just made this comment on MPD's blog, but I'll make it here too. There has to be some pro-mime web sites on the net somewhere, maybe you could hit them up for some votes, seriously.
... story I know. What does it amount to? Not much - I can see as well as you. But I'm not asking what it is. I'm thinking about where it might go. And it could go ...

Want to know more? http://mpd57.blogspot.com/ silent and deadly!
This certainly seems to be the most controversial entry this month. I liked it a lot, myself. The mime is one creepy mother******, and his powers are interesting, to say the least. The giant clowns in the sky was weird, but whatever. Also, this was damn pretty. Good luck.
And to piggyback off Rude-boi, the protagonist is kinda f'd up (albeit I can understand he didn't appreciate that bum messing with his familiar). But Punch comes out and then I'm like, NO- THOSE GUYS ARE REALLY F'D UP! If good and evil alignments were defined by the absolute colors of white and black, the Mime only becomes the hero because he's a lighter shade of grey than Punch. I love that ****!
Excellent layout and storytelling. Another this month that is beyond the norm and I love it. Great job!
This strip is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Some of you really ought to try lifting the eyelids before looking at this stuff. If you could nail something to something else with a nail made out of subtlety then this would be well and truly nailed to some ... well you get what I'm sayin', yeah?
This one is nice, and a good change of pace from the other stuff here but, to be honest, there's only about 4 pages of content.
I'd love to see this one continue, but more needs to happen more quickly.
Comics don't need words. Just look at eekeemoo by Willy MJ. I am intrigued, mystified, and if I didn't adore Dual so much you would totally have got my vote.
And that's even though I dislike mimes.
I hated mimes before & I hate them even more now!
I think the art is very impressive and the story has a lot of potential. As for the folks giving you grief about the "silence"- Frank Miller did an silent issue of Sin City and I think it was one of the best. I think eventually you'll have to throw in some words to move the the story along, but it was great for this first installment and don't yield to anyone telling you what your story should or shouldn't have or be. Great Job! Good Luck!
actually RH deadpool started off with 0/5 stars and i talked him into at least 1 on art along.
Deadpool the mec with a heart, really.;)
There's a mime outside my house every evening. He keeps me awake with his incessant silence, because even though I cannot hear him, his constant unrest ensures my restlessness. If only I could shut him up.
Haha Dshide, we've come a looong way from your original 1 star rating. I think by the end of this month I'll sweet talk you into giving this one a Fav, a friend request, a vote and hell, maybe even getting you to request an autographed original art of the Mime to hang above your bed...right between to your Twisted Sister and Flava Flav posters- I jest (but you did say you enjoyed banter).

Nightmares and Dreamscapes. Thank you. I couldn't remember it for the life of me. Yeah I loved the toy soldier story... the rest were whack-- except for the one where Rob Lowe's brother finds a cure for human aggression and then winds up turning all of humanity into vegetables. Let me guess, you liked the vodoo doll one.
