The primary reason I/we chose mime was the powers he could wield. The ability for ones gestures to be weapons. The flick of a finger, a close of a door (to block someone or something), to walk up stairs into nothing, it goes on and on. Honestly, it seemed like such a powerful character that he'd be kind of a Black Bolt type character. But I also love the theatrical element. The jesters, the clowns, etc. Everything has a surreal, abstract bend to it. I also think it's highly funny that SO many people are anti-mime.I think it's one of those, "it's hip to hate mimes/clowns" things.
All those who've been actually traumatized by a mime, I apologize profusely. I mean you no nightmares.

I'm not sure.
I think it was more a comment on the average comic reader not "getting" or desiring to "read" a comic with no words.
Of course, The Arrival is a brilliant silent book that is receiving HUGE accolades for it's brilliance and there are a others that have succeeded, but I can't disagree that a silent comic is a tough sell.

Ok, so it's a hair late to be jumping in here now, but it is what it is.
I've been away on a family vacation for the first 2 plus weeks of June. Bad timing? Sure, only related to this competition. It was a joyous trip. The great Minnesota is as splendid as ever.
It's a bit fun to see that people took my silence as intentional. It was and wasn't. I just simply couldn't take time away to come here much until now, what with the BBQ's and pontoon boating.
Some of you might get a kick out of this, we just put up a promo piece on our web comic site.
http://pxcomic.com/
I am back and am able to answer questions and discuss the idiocy, er, complexity of Mime.
What? You've all left the building? No one wants to talk Mime? Ok. I hear JJ Abrams has a new show coming out in the fall.
I would speak briefly to the idea that this comic is forever silent. We never did address whether or not this is or isn't a silent comic. As of now it is. But may not continue that way. It was originally intended to be a huge silent comic and may stay that way. I don't mean to be cryptic, but this comic is a much more fluid process than is not quite stated here.
To address some of Robberry237's questions...
1-Work output? I imagine it would be scenes. But we do imagine this story as a long format story. Epic and abstract in nature.
2- Inspiration? Old timey movies and silent films as well as the batman animated influence many of you have rightly taken note of. I also am a big fan of theatre, opera, etc. SO theres some of that. I pictured this whole story on an opera stage when it was originally conceived.
3- http://pxcomic.com/
This site is probably the most well known, not well known thing we do. We've posted some 200 plus pages of content on our site and we're into the second book of PX! We don't put our names anywhere on the site but instead refer to ourselves as Art Monkey and Grammar Cowboy. It's a really stupid not so good secret.
We've had PX! published through Image in a collected trade as well as a six issue mini-series called Sam Noir- Samurai Dectective. That one is also collected into a trade. Recently we were nominated for two Eisner awards for PX! Book One. "Best Digital comic" and "Best Teen publication".
Fun stuff.
4- Mime was originally pitched in a standard comic format, and rejected at Image because, wait for it, a silent comic wouldn't sell well. LOL
Oh, well.
I'm around now, so if any one actually wants to talk now, I'm here. yay.

This is amazing and it has my vote. I don't think people realize how hard it is to manage telling a story or developing characters using only sequential art. It makes me feel like other comics are cheating when they write more than they draw out. Very original. And for the naysayers and "what the hell's going on"-ers...there's a synopsis and then the art does the rest of the storytelling. What are you whining about? Use your head for once and you'll learn to appreciate creativity.

to quote a kid from one of those G.I. Joe PSA's...
"Uhhhhh what the Hell?"
this one throws me off. it might be the lack of dialogue (which i can handle sometimes), it might be that i have no idea what's going on(who's fighting who, what/who are these 'who' we're speaking of, etc), it might even be that i'm just not a big fan of mimes.
either way, the art's really nice and i think i can see what you're shooting for, and it's a cool idea, i just don't think lots of people are ready for that innovation. good work, though.

This certainly brings the weird (in a good way), but I agree with others who've commented on a certain amount of confusion regarding the story. I like the notion of telling it silently, but since you set up the title card idea at the beginning, it might be wise to throw another one in there somewhere just to clarify what's going on.
Still, very well done.

I can understand the creators playing the silent-mime role. But I think it's really hurting y'all. Not speaking about your decisions on artistic choices, where do want the story to go and hell maybe even marketing/pimping yourselves, is self defeating. I love this comic and I think the big part of why it's sitting at 8th is because of the disconnect with your audience. C'mon guys- SPEAK! I'm tired of having the comics I vote for not come within the top 3. To me, this deserves to be at least in the top 5.

And to piggyback off Rude-boi, the protagonist is kinda f'd up (albeit I can understand he didn't appreciate that bum messing with his familiar). But Punch comes out and then I'm like, NO- THOSE GUYS ARE REALLY F'D UP! If good and evil alignments were defined by the absolute colors of white and black, the Mime only becomes the hero because he's a lighter shade of grey than Punch. I love that ****!

I think the art is very impressive and the story has a lot of potential. As for the folks giving you grief about the "silence"- Frank Miller did an silent issue of Sin City and I think it was one of the best. I think eventually you'll have to throw in some words to move the the story along, but it was great for this first installment and don't yield to anyone telling you what your story should or shouldn't have or be. Great Job! Good Luck!

Mime tells the story of a battle between two mythic gods: "Mime" (the king of the cats) and "Punchinello" (the clown god, personified by a pair of evil jesters). These two titans do battle amidst a twilight city that is the Mime's domain. Their powers are diverse: Mime uses subtle, understated trickery with catlike elegance whereas Punchinello relies on brute force and the creation of henchmen to do his bidding. When Punchinello captures the Mime and many of his cat followers, Mime is forced to escape Punch's underground lair and attempt to return to his own twilight realm.
