Super Seed
In a world where super powered beings are a feared, yet revered, minority, International Andrology & Cryobank (IAC) plans to profit by selling the promise of extraordinarily gifted children. Under the guidance of fertility expert and maverick CEO Dr. Michael Billings, IAC has spent the last decade developing the capacity to help parents give birth to super powered children. Until recently, IAC has kept a low profile, despite employing some of the finest fertility experts in the world and engineering the birth of a number of children with amazing abilities. However, the company is in financial crisis. Years of research and development costs, powers-related mishaps and limited marketing have forced IAC to take the Super Seed program mainstream. A corporate image consultant has been hired to make IAC a household name. Prospective parents are wooed as clients, super powered sperm and egg donors are courted, and special woman are sought out to become super surrogate mothers. The demand for its services is high, but so is the opposition from a public fearful of the growing population of supers. The world's first super powered fertility clinic is now open for business. Welcome to Super Seed…Everything is conceivable.

Sorry you didn't get the win Tyler, lets us new what's next for the comic.
TY, I just got on this site and i must say i am very impressed with what you've created. I had no idea you were into writing and drawing comics. Pretty great stuff. keep it up! -Houghton
Congrats, Ty, this is awesome! Looking forward to the next installment!
nice work Mr. Gold!
You know you got my vote Tyler. I'd like to see a super-hero comic on here, loved the story and art. We see a great, and fairly good sized cast in the first 8 screens, and you really filled your Zuda comic with a lot of story. No lite-weight read here. Of course, I'll follow the comic where ever it ends up.
Nice work T! Imagine the sonogram!
Looking forward to the next installment.
you have such a creative mind... best of luck with the contest!
It's great to see Super Seed coming along so well. While some of the constructive criticism on the message board is astute, I think it's worthwhile to invest the time and space to the story line. It was just a number of months ago I picked up the original Grendel and loved it, and that book is pretty much artwork that frames larger text panels almost like a book.
The concept is a great addition to the genre and the artwork is solid. Keep up the good work bro.
Hey, thanks for the thorough review, Jernell. I was kind of surprised at the flack I was getting for having "too many words." I tend to like to read my comics, and don't want to fly through eight pages in a minute. But I concede I would have been better off with smaller lettering, and better balloon placement.
As far as my art, I'm definitely trying to go for more than it just being "serviceable." Part of the problem, and some of you caught it, was that Super Seed was not drawn for the Zuda format originally, and some of the panels were warped a bit in the reformatting. While I think readers will see improvement in the art as Super Seed continues, I do recognize my limitations as an artist. I'm collaborating with artists on a number of other future projects, but for now, Super Seed is my baby so to speak. So, hopefully, I'll keep as many of you as possible along for the ride.
Just read this entire comic and it's much better than the previous version of it. The high-concept is very imaginative and takes the Superhero concept in a direction I haven't seen it go in before. People are complaining about the amount of text your comic has, personally I have no problem with large amounts of text as long as it's interesting. Everyone loves Watchmen and there were huge text-only portions in it.
.
Anyway, about your art ... overall I think it is serviceable. The backgrounds and coloring are pretty good, but you need to work on drawing people, especially their faces. This is a problem in a medium where more often than not the focus is on the people. I don't think everyone has to be beautiful or idealized, but they need to be conveyed convincingly. Right now you have people who's facial features don't line up and body parts drawn out of proportion and at weird angles. If you really want to be competitive in mainstream comics (or even in many indie comics) you have to have top-notch art. If not, it's just another reason for publishers to turn you down.
.
You have a really great idea, it shouldn't be too hard to find someone to share the art chores with you. Someone who could possibly focus on the characters and anatomy while you focus on the backgrounds and coloring. Of course, you have great a foundation to build your artistic skills upon and I suspect with more practice your artwork will be well-balanced, but until then a little help wouldn't hurt.
.
Good luck!!! (^_^)

I like the story a lot, but the art isn´t that good. You have talent, but you need to work harder in your skills as penciller and letterer (in my humble opinion).
I would like to see this story with better art.
Anyway, good luck.
Hey, thanks for the continued support. This has been an awesome month.
Wanted to let you all know about the Super Seed support site...a behind the scenes look at the inner workings of IAC, the world's first super powered fertility clinic. This site is filled with TONS of hints about future storylines. Check it out.

T!
Great job. I like the art work but would like a bit more color. Interesting story line. You've got my vote.
Just got the post card the other day, thanks!
Awesome idea. The competition is really touch this month. some really cool stuff. Wish there were a few more pages of this.
The idea is interesting but the word balloons take way too much space.
Nice Job Tyler!
Either I'm dreaming or I've read through Sheldon's comment before. Which with the comment system lately anyway? You got double and triple posts here and there, comments that come and go in a ghostly fashion???? End of April weirdness I guess.
Writing and arting your own entry i totally support. well done on getting into the comp Tyler.
To put it bluntly, this comic to me is like an ugly girl...they shouldn't talk too much, instead they need to act. Your art isn't "bad", it's just young and ugly. What i'm saying is, i can't really follow two lesbian mothers having a conversation for 8 panels through your art. However, give me sweat, blood, **** and ****, and you got yourself a fan.
You've got a great concept and what seems so far as a more than decent following. Best of luck Tyler.
Nice Work Tyler! Your art reminds me a lot of "The Boys." Its an interesting take on the superhero genre. My only complaint is the word balloons are really overwhelming some of your artwork and my eyes tend to ignore the art and just focus on the balloons. Other than that you been a hell of a competitor! Keep it UP!
Umm...ugly girls need love too? Seriously, thanks for the feedback Sheldon, and I'm sorry the art didn't do anything for you. I agree with some of the comments that more of a visual punch in my eight screens would have helped me out in the contest. As an artist, yeah, I might rather draw mostly superheroes, funky robots or gorillas in battlesuits, but as a writer I wanted to do a little more than that...but as comics is a visual medium, point taken.
And I second RKB- check out www.tylerjamescomics.blogspot.com
Check out this guys blog, a contest is there that ends tomorrow, and a niffty Super Seed ad.
Nice work TJ, congratulations.
Great work TJ - interesting dialogue too. Keep 'em coming.
Looking forward to reading more...keep up the good work tyler james.
I love! the seed idea behind this concept; I just can't get behind the result. Comics are about more than just an idea, or writing, it’s about visual storytelling - this is way too verbose, specially considering there are so many elements that make exactly where this story is going unclear. The artwork and balloon placement just make this a laborious read. Too hard to get through for me, maybe a collabo with Leon from Streetpunx could make for a serious result!
BluEyeDevil- Nice catch...the Ryan/Jack storyline is the main crux of this episode. And yes, this was not written as an 8 page story, rather, more a traditional length comic tale that was condensed for the Zuda format. Still, I'll hope you'll stay tuned, because there is a lot more to come.
Showing all these characters in 8 screens and doing IMO such a great job of it is what sets this comic apart from most of Zuda past and present. How many times have posters wondering if their was life past 8 screens for a comic on here. How many times have people wondered what else can a reader expect to see. Showing a big part of the cast right off, really shows the reader what they can expect.
Tooo many characters and scenes for such a short story. Stick with the last 3 frames (Ryan's story) and blow it out. Explain the genetic manipulation stuff through this one character's story (flashbacks, callouts, whatever, and get the other story lines introduced later.

Awesome premise! The art kept me a little unfocused but some of the best graphic novels have some crappy art. Not to be a downer...this chapter was a perfect opener. Keep'em comin'!!
That's just the ones in this contest, or the comics that didn't win past contests/ have yet to be updated. Bayou, Pray for Death, Night-Owls, High-Moon, all have more than 8 screens Pirate Kitty.
Why is it every comic I've looked at is only 8 pages long?
Not sure what's up with the repetitive comments, but it seems to be affecting a bunch of you…hey, I'm all for upping my comment count. : ) On to your comments…
Faile486- Yeah, I think I'm still getting my bearings straight on the Zuda 4:3 ratio, and I may have been trying to squeeze more story in than the pages would let me.
Flip and Dshide- This competition is certainly nerve wracking…but you know, I don't think it can last all month. I'm hoping a Zen calm will wash over me and I'll reach a state of nirvana…yeah, probably not going to happen. And as far as the sportsmanship, hey, I'm a fan of comics and I'm a fan of Zuda.
Longabaugh- Thanks. That's one of the fun things about this comic…there are so many different angles and issues that can be covered in the world of Super Seed, it's a daunting task to narrow them down to what to focus. Love the direction Pray for Death is heading…looking forward to more updates.
Treb and Delilah- Thanks. Lots more to come.
Tut- Thanks for asking. The current storyline (Donor) is finished and the next one (Surrogate) is written and being drawn now. We'll see what happens after that...
BTW, I just got my Super Seed promotional postcards in the mail. I'll be passing them around at NYCC, but if anyone wants to get one in the mail, send me an email at superseedcomic@gmail.com and I'll fire one off to you.
Looking great man. I can't wait to see the rest! How many issues do you have planned?
thats awesome! i dont like the doc haha he's mean. and certainly plans to do sth bad. and i dont like the pinkish power hahaha but thats only coz i dont like the color in general. thats an awesome idea i think and would like to know more.
go u!
Tyler: Dude you get the best sportsmans award. I have never seen a current competitor say as many nice things on others comment sections as you. Wow, you give me faith in humanity all over again. Great comic, great attitude. You rule.
Since I don't think Flip noticed I will apologize for the triple post in his stead. Sorry.
Cool, original concept with lots of potential, left me wanting more of the story! I want my superpower to be the ability to make the bus come on time...
You've created a world where anything really is conceivable. The possibilities are endless. Anyone could reveal that they have powers. And the stories of people seeking out their biological fathers would be great.
hey thanx for checkin out our comic tyler, i happened across your promo video too, it was fun to view, good job. best of luck to u too. this competition is frikin nerve racking.

I think the concept is awesome, and it seems pretty well orchestrated.
The issues I had with it are the artwork seems a bit...scrunched? Not sure if you had to condense it down to fit it in the Zuda frame, but that'd explain it. I think if it was bigger, it'd solve the word balloon placement issue that a few have mentioned as well.
I want to thank everyone who has viewed and commented, voted and favorited, whether Super Seed was for you or not...and I want to thank you with A CONTEST!
Check out http://tylerjamescomics.blogspot.com for the details.
This is a great story. With all of the recycled ideas out there, this one should win on originality alone!
