Sam & Lilah
Fate really is a four-letter word. When Lilah meets Sam at a coffee shop, things seem to be headed in the right direction. He's cute, fit, not shy but not cocky. The problem is, Sam is short for Samson and when your name is short for Delilah, that's Trouble. Too much trouble to drop on a guy over cupcakes, so she bails. But why? Things were going so well. Trust us, she's got her reasons. Don't worry - Sam's a true romantic, and not about to give up that easily. His motto has always been "consequences be damned", but that might end up being a very poor choice of words. When fate hits the fan, they will be put to the test in ways that they had never dreamed. Lucky for them, their love will give them strength. Like, SUPER-strength. So strap in, folks – we've got Romance! Adventure! Fashion! Curses! Cupcakes! What more could you want in a comic?

Thanks for the support, guys! And Rob - great to meet you this weekend. (RKB - I didn't meet you, did I? I met a lot of people...)
Me too, RKB. Glad it's continuing, and ACT-I-VATE is a great home for it, but I think the romance genre good use some rounding out at Zuda. Definitely in my top ten for a "reader's choice showdown" for July.
-Rob
Of course this comic is on my lists of the Zuda comics i want back in the Zuda Invite. contest.
Thanks again, Rob! And to anyone who might be interested in what else I'm up to in the near future, here's some hype about a heartwarming new story over at THE CHEMISTRY SET, called "How I Lost My S#?! At the Apple Store":

Personally, I would have really liked to see this win. I hope to see this continue. Best of luck!
I don't want to be overly critical but I do feel an personal obligation to comment...the art good, the coloring brilliant and the story unique...I just didn't like the characters... please don't think of this as an insult... just my own idiosyncrasies coming to bear...I'm sure you'll find success keep at it!
I guess Monday is the big day, so best of luck. If you don't win but decide to keep doing the comic do let us know where so we can track you down.
you have my Vote, Great work.
greg - how about a digital cupcake.... ^^

Greg - must I do *everything* for you? Sigh.
I'm afraid it's made my cupcake cravings EVEN WORSE. Need the cupcakes. Now. Please deliver to my office in McLean.

robberry: Thanks for your support! The fact that it comes after a period of some consideration makes it mean that much more.
I realize I'm late in voting this month, but this one is the best overall and a represents a solid direction for different kinds of properties and genres at Zuda. This is the one that I think shows the most original take on Zuda and shows the most potential for building new traffic from different genres.
Good job, guys. I'm in it late, but I'm voting for you.
-Rob
gregmce: How about this: http://cupcakestakethecake.blogspot.com/. Does that help, or does that make it worse?
--
SamLittle: You must be thinking of MyFoxyForce5. We filmed the pilot, but alas, it never got picked up.
I just enjoyed a muffin that was somewhat cupcake-esque, but lacking the oh-so-important frosting element. The frosting, dammit! WE MUST HAVE THE FROSTING!
---
Also, congrats on that Fox 5 DC's My5 thing, but with a name like that it should feature more spandex-clad chicks with feathered hair and kung-fu kicks.
---
All of this is of course my schizo way of saying:
I still really want this to win win win.
Reading this makes me want cupcakes. This is a good thing. Except for the lack of cupcakes at casa de greg.
Hey everybody! SAM&LILAH made Fox5 DC's My5 as one of the hottest links on the net for the week of March 24! We're #4, just like on Zuda, but that can change, right? Right?

>_< I wrote a thanks to everyone but my computer crashed before I got to the bottom ;_;... I'll rewrite the thanks to all of you soon.
You've got a solid comic here. The dialog flows very smoothly and something about this Japanese/ European fusion art is just right. Go Sam & Lilah!
carmen: Thanks! So I guess your mission is clear, right? Get more of your friends and associates to vote for SAM & LILAH! :)
--
Scadilla: Much appreciated. Don't worry, win or lose, we'll have more butter for you to, er, knife through.
The ranking of this month's comics are a testimony to who the fans of Zuda are. I happen to read the comics because my husband wrote last months Joe Comics, but otherwise I never would have stumbled on the site. However, if the fans of Zuda were more of my friends and associates this comic would be hands down number one. You've got my vote!
Now that's a cliff-hanger. This was well written and well drawn. I really like that dialogue. It wasn't contrived and flowed very smoothly. I cruised through those 8 pages like a searing knife through butter. That's a strong indication of great story-telling. If you don't win here I would love to see what else you have in store. Good luck!
carbaggio: thanks for coming along!
--
RKB: thanks for your vote! We aim to appeal both to People Who Like Romance Comics *and* People Who Don't Like Romance Comics. Those two sets cover pretty much everyone, I guess. The one group we don't care about are People Who Don't Like Cupcakes. That's just weird.
You got my vote for keeps. It has some of the best coloring of any comic ever on Zuda, and this is the month almost everyone kicked ass in that regard, you and tiempo could fight it out to see who is number one in the color department. The art was very good fit the story, and expressive in the characters features. Backgrounds are fine too, and I like all the dots. My wanting to see the curse panel aside the writing is very good too, you move the story along over the 8 screens without going too fast/slow. Some of, no the best lettering/ letter effects so far on Zuda. A story with a lot of promise, that has already showed so much great talent. The main reason you got my vote however is you made a romance comic for someone who doesn't even like romance comics. You got me to not just like, but vote for a genre any other time I wouldn't like at all. That impressed the hell out of me, and got my vote. Very good job folks.
superb. nice pacing. little bit of intrigue to make you want more and the colours are different and fantastic. I want to read more
JFx: thanks for coming aboard! glad to know we've got your attention.
--
Dooomcat: we are happy to have received your very first Zuda vote! it's not in vain, and we appreciate every single one, so thanks!
Wwwoooooaaawwwww, I never fall in love whit a history in soo less pages.
Great pacing, nice done work.
This is the first time I've actually voted and I guess it won't do any good :P
The writing on this is strong and interesting, the art is good too (though the sporadic use of dots is distracting and sometimes the coloring quite obscures what's going on). So good luck to you guys and thanks for creating a solid comic worth coming back for :)
Italianissima: you WILL get to read more. Trust me on this one! And thanks for your support...
--
aamittal: Hey, thanks! I need to drop you a line, lady.
--
Gregg: Thanks for the kind words. This is our charge: make our romance comic for everybody, not just for People Who Like Romance Comics.
Great comic! I feel like I already know (and like) the characters (hard to do in eight pages) and, unlike a lot of the entries this month, this story seems like it's going somewhere beyond the eight pages. Add to that an effective art style that tells the story well and I can't help but want to read more. Amazing too, because romance isn't exactly my bag.
Jim, you have me hooked. Can't wait for the next installment. Good luck with the competition.
Jim, I want to read more!!! When do we get to find out what happens?
Welcome to the Zudafold Dougan Parental Units.
David: Thanks, man! Oh, yes - to all Zuda Readers: you can check me out waxing on my Pop Culture Loves at Whitney Matheson's POP CANDY Blog over at USA Today:

Stacie: thanks so much for the thoughtful comments! I like to throw a bunch of things in the storytelling blender, too, and hopefully it comes through as coherent and compelling. We endeavor to continue meeting your high expectations!
Congrats on the press, Jim:

My Husband and I love this comic. It is very well done and leaves the reader wanting to know more about the couple. I am an avid reader of canon literature, historical accounts, and well versed in religious studies. This comic blends my three favorite genres along with romance, humor and sex appeal. I am not impressed with some of the other comics because they lack the basics of good story telling. Nicely done!
Roberto: thanks for the comment! It was great meeting you last week and I appreciate your support.
--
adottinger: From now on, my dear, I am going to refer to you as "adottinger". Kind of has a nice ring to it, dontcha think? (oh, and thanks)
James P. Dougan is a very talented writer,
I wish him the best.
-Roberto Ortiz
This is terrific! I'm a big fan of Jim's writing - and Hyeondo's art captures the story perfectly! Good luck to you both! :o)
screamingdolai: Thanks for your support. Please don't be disgusted!
--
Capt. Kozmo: No, Umberto! You're just in time! Thanks.
--
cw: Hey! How awesome! I'm going to drop you a note.

jmkpdougan: Ladies and Gentlemen, and Zuda readers of all ages, I give to you the fair and totally unbiased opinion of my Mom & Dad. If you were on the fence before about voting for SAM & LILAH, *this* should be the impartial endorsement that seals your vote. Thanks Mom and Dad!
Sam and Lila already promises to be a very interesting romance based on the first 'episode'. There is an air of mystery and intrigue that needs to be satisfied and thereby sparked our anticipation of future chapters. Jim & Kathleen Dougan.
great stuff, jim. good luck rockin' the vote...you guys deserve first place. cheers, catherine w.
I voted. now. too late?
I am so disgusted by the way the voting is going this month. This is clearly the deserving comic.
famished: I'm hoping to have the "Deadpool-avatar" vote locked up. Thanks again for your support!
