It’s a tough job, and when the last bell rings at the end of the day at the old high school on the edge of town, it’s going to get a lot tougher. The new French teacher, Ms. Genevieve, has been hearing some weird things from the storage room on the third floor. Downright spooky things. Spooky enough for her to ask for a meeting in the library after school with a few new colegues she hopes she can trust. There’s the History teacher Mr. Colvin. He’s the straight edge of the group who likes to think he knows the answers to just about everything. He’s had the same crew cut for the last thirty years and an inexplicable proclivity for sweaters. Mr. Baker is nearly sixty and teaches Science. When he’s not wandering the halls aimlessly, he can be found sleeping soundly on the floor of the computer lab. He loves robots and has a vast and bizarre knowledge of Broadway show tunes. Finally we have the sardonic English teacher Mr. Evans. He lives on coffee but still manages to be the laziest. Still, he knows when to take his opportunities when he sees them, like victimizing Mr. Colvin and Mr. Baker or trying to get a date with Ms. Genevieve. Whatever is up there is only the beginning. The truth will be scarier than a room full of ninth graders! One thing’s for sure: It’s going to be one heck of a school year!

Yep, me too. I've seen a bit more of this story since it's come to AmalgamatedArtist and, we're glad to have it there of course. But it's definitely in my top ten list for a "reader's choice comic showdown" for July.

gph- Thanks Other Gabe! :) I DID do a lot of shucking and jiving, bribing and pedaling, but ultimately the truth is that there's a lot of good people who helped Teachers rise in the ranks, and I owe them a lot for helping it go as far as it did! And a mighty shout out goes to the dude upstairs! (and I don't mean that noisy guy with the drums!) :) Let me know where Joe Comics ends up! You guys brought a lot of smiles! Go Joe!

9thDoc- I gotta say, a special thank you goes out to you! You were one of the believers and defenders of the Teachers from the beginning. Have you ever thought of going into Tarot reading? :) It does seem to be shaping into a graphic novel so far...although I find myself strangely drawn to the Zuda format as far as composition goes, so it may be a 'wide screen' graphic novel. I'll let you know as it develops. It's great to know we can all communicate here, even after the competition.

RKB- A big thank you goes to you too as an early friend of the Teachers. I will defiinitely post some info here as to where you can find them. Knowing that I won't have to conform to the 52 screens I was initially intending, I've bloated some parts of the story out and so right now It looks like it's going to be about a 120 pg. graphic novel. With luck, I should be able to finish it before the year is out...Geoff Darrow I'm not- so the drawing at least, should be reasonably speedy...More later....
going from #10 to #4 is a major league accomplishment. Sort of a lesson there: every comic should get a second, and third read to see what you missed the first time. Glad to hear teachers will go on, let us know where.
BTW, Gabe, your final rank was 4th... Not bad for someone who started in 10th! Congrats.
Holy Moley! This competition was a thrill ride from beginning to end! Thanks to all of you for the support and helpful comments/critiques. It has really meant a lot to me! I've been dreaming of making comics all of my life- so this has all been too awesome for words! Through this, I've met a lot of new friends with the same passion and interest in this medium-which is very exciting! And thanks to Zuda, we are all able to draw more and more people into the world of comics. There's a wide variety of ideas and styles out there, and I'm looking forward to seeing more!!! Students, thank you for supporting your Teachers!! Teachers, thank you for supporting Teachers! :) This story is far from over! Teachers will continue!
I agree with the majority- this would be so amazing as a graphic novel. Any plan to continue Teachers somewhere?
