Absurdity at Its Best
Absurdity at Its Best is © Victor Bonilla
Whether it is the secret history of the pickle kings of yore, or the maniacal ranting of a communist chair, Absurdity at its Best aims to inject a little absurdity into your daily life.

this is thoughraly bizzare
Odd, random and funny-just the way I like my cake.
Thanks for the kind word everyone, and yeah I've got some more in the works just need to decide what or where I'm going to put my "web presence" will try to keep you guys up to date
Odd and funny...enjoyed it.
It saddens me that this didn't due better. I keep coming back, and I laugh out loud every time. Job is beginning to rival Prof. Monkey for my favorite.
Any chance at all that we'll see more somewhere?
Hey man! Another Potato?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
Ok, that's cool, but not really, really, really new, around here right?
Congrats man... Great job.

many thanks for all the comments and critiques,& no worries about 10th place I kinda like being in 10th anyway I got a couple other stories in the works.
For what it's worth (if anything) I think you deserve better than the 10 spot in this contest.
Fight potato, fight!
Great! Specially the ape one
Different strokes indeed, (W)illinest - geddit?
I looked at the last screen and thought to myself that if I was doing 8 screens of absurdist material that last one is the one I'd most likely do myself, and since I hate everything I do myself, I didn't look too kindly on it!
Entirely my own problem!
i thought the last was the best by far personally.
different strokes.
i also was thinking that this entry is under-rated for art. Solid art. Range of different looks too. I like. I'd adjust this one upward more than any other if I had the powers of Zu-god. Not into a win mind you but definately out of last place.
I was keen to like this one, but the title promises a little too much! ...at its best? Well there's nothing like a little confidence! Seeing the first screen I thought you might be on to something, but strangely I expected more adventures of the potato. I guess I was disappointed by Spudman and was looking for more potato-y-ness. I think potatoes are intrinsically funny like some people think monkeys are amusing - fools!
The other screens are a bit hit and miss and although they are very well drawn it matters little if the gags don't quite hit home. And I wasn't even sure if they were supposed to be gags. The title claims absurdity as its intention, so why the gags? If creators are going to do this kinda stuff in future, I think they'd be well advised to think about a single or connected theme and trying to get a consistancy of tone. Monkeys seem popular for some reason! And one more thing, best screens first and last please. The first was great and promised much, but the last was weak, possibly the weakest, and that was the lasting impression.
This strips last place seems inevitable which is a shame because the artwork really is very very good, and the ideas are almost there. Its just a lack of clarity in the whole rather than in the detail.
More exciting adventures of Tom the Potato I say, limited though they might be!
I do really like the cigarettes kill one.
thanks for the comments and anyone who actually voted, as Phillip said feel free to check out an interview with me

Fans of Absurdity, check out The Knave's Log (knaveofkrypton.blogspot.com), where you can find an in-depth interview with Victor Bonilla, the creator of this very series!
Very cool. I like the balance of the funny strips with the real WTF absurdist stuff. I voted for you, why not?
Some really neat ideas that, sadly, get stuck in absurd lameness.
This has a "News Of The Weird" feel in a comicstrip style. Interesting ideas , But the artwork leaves a lot to be desired. Needs a lot of polish but has some potential.
In regards to you question about initial listing of the comics, I THINK based on the first two competitions that on the homepage the comics are listed in alphabetical order by title of the comic and then on the competition page the comics are alphabetical by creator last names (using the first creator to go by). Of course, after the rankings come, the it's all on the people's votes. Again, I'm not 100% sure but I think that's how they did it.
thanks for the additional comments guys,

The Ninth Doctor-Thanks for the comments, Thomas is really nicely polished and Dane has a very strong artistic style as well. But as you say its just getting started Their's no reason I can't move up to 9th! come on supporters! I'm coming down with a bit of a sore throat 1st of the year yay! so I funna try and nip this in the bud before I get fully "sick". thanks again for all the support guys
Even though this is an excellant comic, it's not surprising that it's ranking low. In all the competitions so far, the single strip humour entries have all performed similarly, regardless of quality. It seems the only way for such an entry to be picked up is instant winner ala night-owls.
What I really don't get is how both Thomas and Dane are ahead. They are both quality entries, but Absurdity is miles ahead of them.
Anyway, it's still very early in the competition. AaiB may yet buck the trend.
Victor, if you're interested in doing a Knave of Krypton interview, contact me at theknave@knaveofkrypton.com.
malifer -- thanks

Rankings are up! Woot last place.
Funny as hell. The absurdity reminded me of The Far Side.
MorPuddypond -thanks glad you liked it
----
RKB - Thanks that makes sense.
Victor: according to Ron over on the message boards you won't be in the order of the number of votes you have until you see rank 1, rank 2, etc; out by each of the comics. Maybe you guys will get your first ranking today. I'm really wondering what's going to be in the lead myself.
The ape on page three was enough to win my vote. Very funny stuff here.
thanks for the comments everyone
frequentcontributor - thanks for the comment, I'll try to improve on that ,glad you atleast like the colors.
----
famished -- thanks for that it makes sense.
----
fanboy d - thanks! Some of my best friends are spuds, monkeys, and comics...
---
czarlos- Thanks for the comment Glad you enjoyed it.

does anyone know if we're listed in order on the competition page? If so it appears I'm in the middle of the pack but can't figure why since I appear to have the lowest #'s in every catagory? Well thanks again to all if you liked it please help spread the word
Absurdity at Its Best is definitely that!
I laughed out loud at most of the strips. What else can you ask for?
Good stuff!
what is it about monkeys and potatoes that that screams 'comic potential'?! first spudman and alphamonkey, now AaiB :D
love the monkey joke, i must admit, very accomplished overall.
I think it was meant as a sociology joke.
Nice coloring, but didn't really make me laugh. When the cell phone said "...& an...", I had to stop in my tracks for a second because it looked so incorrect...
a couple more reply's before I head off to draw...

RKB- thanks for the comment. In response to your first point about screen 2 I was trying to evoke mood/feeling throught color just as in other screens I went red to describe anger/agression/pain, I thought in that strip green would describe disgust, "sickly green" if you will, its trial and error. I'm glad you enjoyed some of them and I at least got 3 stars. Thanks again for the comments
----
rajma45-Thanks glad you liked screen six ,but whats a "soc" joke?
-----
The Ninth Doctor- thanks for the comment I totally agree
----
SO it seems people liked ciggarettes killing and koalas and ivy league monkeys... Thanks again for all the comments
I'd say that page 6 is the best of the set, even over killing cigarettes and koalas.
To those who say that this, Dane, and Thomas are the same thing, they are the same genre, humour strip, but are wildly differant in each's take on that genre, each is very unique.
screen 6 was a nice Soc joke but the rest seems a bit forced.
3/5 stars from me. On screen 2 why the total green tint for panel 4? Screen 5: the sad, lonesome, cell-phone was funny. Screen 6 fit in with my "screw the ivy league" mentality -so I liked it. Screen 7 cigarettes kill: had the best layout on a page of any of the screens. Screen 8: Thinking your a sheep beats Napoleon I guess. fairly funny over all, but really not my kind of comic hence 3/5 instead of my vote and undying support.

hairballOne-thanks for the kind words

Corey Gene Tincher-Glad to hear it

Daneman - Promotions for everyone!

Illinest- I'm glad you enjoyed at least one thanks for the comment

Michael- In regards to your questions I really don't know as I'm just a competitor I have no idea what goes on in the editorial side of zuda. However barring some sort of conspiracy to have all these one page "funny" comics take each other out in the competetion by spliting the "funny" vote three ways... it may just be that three of the best submissions for that month happened to be funny strips? thanks for the comment
----
Buche - Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment
---
SunnyvaleTrash - the cigarettes kill seems to be a hit, thanks for the comment.
Thanks again to all those nice enough to leave a comment.
"Cigarettes Kill" was the only page that elicited a laugh.
So funny stuff. That's life... so bizarre and full of little details.
I don't get why there are 3 "1 page & I get it" strips this time around. I feel like Danetropolis & this one are doing the same thing, they're just packaged differently. I also feel like the Thomas one is doing the same thing, only his has a reoccurring character.
I feel like this would have been better received in the previous competitions, because it would have been a different style of storytelling.
First impressions:
Kinda funny but not LOL. The art is suitable to the subject matter.
Hard to offer helpful criticism since with it being a single page joke strip the only thing that really matters is if you make me laugh.
or make your other readers laugh. I can't really comment on whether or not everyone else laughed.
Me, I didn't laugh quite enough. I did enjoy the last page. :)
Hooray for gag-strips!!
I love it! Page 6 did the trick for me, funny stuff!
Pure entertainment! Your layouts and colors are fantastic. Love the killer cig., (there's something very ominous about that kid looming over the victim).
Mooore comments !! here are some replies..
Famished-Thank you sir word creation is a subject I'd like to expand upon in the strip should I by some chance win.
Steve steiner-sometimes no thought at all... I kid I kid, thanks for the comment
Rudis- the single panel multi-panel observation is an interesting one, thanks for that. As far as injecting some opinion... well I'm not really trying to get on a soapbox inevitably some of my opinion comes through perhaps in some of the later ones...
Longabaugh-Dully noted sir! althought koala's are vicious vicious creatures
KingofSnake- "that's what she said"! ...no not a fan of the office? I make bad jokes, thanks for the comment
The Ninth Doctor- In all seriousness thank you I really appreciate the kind words and do think about alot of aspects while drawing/writing the screens. I would like to say that if I win I would really be putting 100%. It'd great if a Humor title won for once wouldn't it?
Bornieo- noted ...more killing...
restif51- not only an editorial visionary, but an.. acquitorial missionary...noted more koala's
k0ntraband-thank you fine sir or miss
grifter78 - finally something to drink to.. To RANDOMNESS!! thanks for the comment
thefourthman-thanks if choosen I'd like to continue experimenting.
cujr112002-Thanks for taking the time to comment,as far as the timing I would actually like to come out on weekly or a couple times a week should I win, perhaps that would help.
MANY thanks to all who took the time to comment and critique my work if you liked even one of the "screens" I hope you vote Victor think of that favorite screen as the best. Also if for some strange reason you actually liked it even if its not your "favorite" on zuda at the moment feel free to spread the word to friends , family, androids. Thanks again.
...hmm I tried to put spaces in between my replies to each person but seem unable to do so my "internets Knowledge" is apparently not much.. apologies for that and any spelling/grammar mistakes
I won't comment on the humor since it's so subjective, but I must say I'm not really enjoying the comics that seem to be random mish-mashes of panels taken from different stories. These seem more suited for newspaper strips or maybe a web-comic which updates daily or weekly (and I know this is a possibility with Zuda), but in the 8-page format I really expect more of a 'story', even in the loosest definition of the word. As Rudis says injecting some sort of editorial opinion or social/political commentary would really tie this strip together and possibly make it more appealing to those who are not enamored of its humor.

This is a fine work. It really stands out in it's overall design and its variety. Good job.
Pretty funny stuff. I like randomness for randomness' sake.
Nicely done. Funny stuff.
