Definitely a clever idea that seems to be getting better as it progresses (page 8 being one of the best). I'm not too fond of the art on the two young fellas (as others have said - too stiff) but hopefully that will develop as well.

Bodies seem stiff. Not sure if that's what you were going for. I liked your pacing, colors and the old man. The two characters at the beginning seem to be interchangable and stiff.

I really wasn't digging the art in the first two pages, but I came around by the end. The story REALLY REALLY reminds me of American Werewolf in London so far, which I guess is kinda a back handed compliment or a duplicitous insult, depending on how you take it

I didn't hate this. The art had a nice Jim Mahfood-meets-Kelly Jones thing going on that worked to create a nice dank moodiness, but the story took SOOOOO long to get anywhere. It was a good place to end, whith the guy being a Lovecraft monster, or whatever, but maybe they should have had an adventure for a few pages before getting lost in the rain, because that's literally all they did for 8 pages. I also wish that this were a bit goofier and lighthearted to offset what I'm sure is some upcoming violence...

luv that last page! nice work Thollin. HPL is def one of my literary faves and its always nice to see it represented visually. i do, however hafta agree that it is a bit of a slow-build and that prolly hurt you in the rankings.

Wow! Thanks for all the nice words about my little comic, everyone! It seems that my lovecraftian concept is liked by a part of the zuda audience. Now let's hope that more people finds this likeable so that I can get to the top of the contest pile and tell you the rest of my story!

still haent read all of them but this is my 3rd contender for my vote! Not sure which out of 3 so far I love best, I'll think about it, but I really love this one.

I think its strongest asset is the Dialogue, it was fun to read, and I instantly recognized those characters' personality. The art is also great, very original style and I love the color tone.

The art quality actually has a nice style to it, and everyone loves a good H.P.L yarn, but I think this entry missed the mark a bit. 8 pages is a very short length in comic book land, and I'm afraid in your 8, not a lot happened. I know Lovecraft was more about the slow build than slam bang action, but given the constraints of the foremat a wee bit more going on could have made the difference. I think you could really shine in about 20 pages or so, lets hope you get the opportunity to do so.

Well, points for anything featuring Lovecraftian themes. This is one of those that has a lot of potential, but not sure the execution is living up to it. It's a great effort and I sincerely hope it does well for you.

Excuse the doublepost... Just had to say... Some people sincerely mean the nice things they say, they are not being patronizing or sarcastic. This does not always translate well to print, but for some of us idiots, friendly is simply our nature. That said , Great Job, keep up the Great Work!

I won't be patronising, and I hope you don't think me too impolite if I am blunt. I know you only have eight pages, but this was too formulaic - really just a pastiche of a few dodgy horror films that weren't much good when they were made, with the chaps saying 'dude' to each other to bring it "up to date". The conversations were laboured and unrealistic to me (you don't whine about the weather when you are both out in the rain), and neither I nor anybody I know will ever say 'Let's hightail it bro'. The old fellow they met was just a stereotype so didn't add any interest for me. I greatly admire Lovecraft's stuff - I think he's one of the top two American authors - and I like some of your other work, but I didn't feel that this piece did justice to either of you.

Not bad mang. Good atmosphere, but I can't help but think you could of added a bit more of an element of danger stalking the two instead of just the sound (a silhouette of some kind of monster perhaps?). I did like the subtle hint at the end with the old man, but overall I just couldn't really find much interest in this.

Great comic nonetheless.

PS. People who comment, stop telling every comic "good luck." You can't mean it for more than one creator or creative team. Lame.

Pros: Best dialogue I've read on Zuda this month. Your story is good and you seem to have it plotted out.
Cons: The art is not there. You seem like a great writer; maybe hire an artist? It's pouring rain, yet no one is wet. Transparent balloons are not how you indicate whispering.

I started off thinking the first few pages were a little slow going but this ended up grabbing me by the ear and not letting go. The art is so unique and it had just the right kind of creepy vibe. I admit, I am an absolute sucker for anything that involves the cthulhu mythos. Love it love it love it. You gotta fav, 5, and a vote outta me. ;)

I love this! I'm only just getting into Lovecraft but the little I have read (so far)I've really loved. This is the perfect blend of his work, modern characters, and refrences and homages to awesome pop culture (Night of the Living Dead, American Werewolf in London, I'm sure there's more to come) Great job with the awesomness Mr. Thollin!

An American Cthulu in London, indeed. I especially like Howard and the atmosphere. If you can stretch out the American Werewolf story alongside Lovecraft's mythology then there's potentially fun to be had here.

Sam and Matt are hiking along the English coast when they loose their way and strange sounds start to call out in the night. Something predatory is following them!
That’s when they stumble upon Howard, a farmer who warns them of being in the marsh at night and brings them to the town of Old Innsmouth.
Old Innsmouth seems at first just a sleepy old town but as Matt’s and Sam’s stay is prolonged due to bad weather they slowly realize that something is not quite right. The townsfolk are overly fond of late night swims in the freezing Atlantic Ocean, and they seem to have more in common with fish or frogs than mammals.
However, Everything is not all bad; Beth, the beautiful girl who works in the local pub, has charmed Matt. And though they appear strange, the villagers are friendly.
But one night shortly after their arrival, Sam sees something hideous out in the marshes. Something is devouring a poor girl. Scared out of his mind, he races back to the town and tries to convince the villagers that there’s a monster lurking in the marshes.
