Frankie
A fifty-year-old creature still treated as a child, Frankie is the son of The Monster- spawn of the great Victor Frankenstein. All that he knows about the world is what his monstrous father has told him. As all children eventually do, Frankie rebels against the laws of his father and discovers that there is a whole world out there waiting to be discovered. That curiosity brings not only the joys and pains of discovery but also the pent up anger of his father's contempt for mankind. The truth is let loose and the monster attempts to persuade his son to stay with him and him alone. They are the only ones of their kind and thus only they can truly understand each other.
In the end Frankie must choose to stay with his father or leave home for good to go it alone in a beautiful uncertain world. To stay is to choose prison, but to go may prove even more deadly to him and to all of mankind.

Damn, Manny.. really phenomenal work. An awesome new twist on the Frankenstein mythos. I hope you're able to sort out a way to get it published in the future!
I was working on a submission dealing with the same characters. Your pages caused me to head back to the drawing board and start again.
Great minds...
I dig your work.
Dude this is awesome work.
It is unfortunate this is all of the story because it is very good. I wish the author would reconsider.
wow Manny, that's tough. Sorry to hear that.
Hope it all works out for the better.
Wow! This was excellent. I truly hope you make more chapters!
i have love for this story. I think the art is amazing and i think it should have won. luck in the future man.
Thanks for the comments guys. And a special thanks to Ninth Doctor for filling people in.
Yes, It's my desire to make more Frankie. Not that I'm looking for a pity party, but I am unemployed right now. So, comics are not first on my list of priorities. Frankie is a passion project of mine that if I can force it into my schedule I will try my darnedest to publish it somewhere.
I'll try to keep you guys in the loop the best I can.
Thanks!
-Manny
Bry314bry and Vulcan: Welcome to zuda! Unfortunately, only the comic that receives the most votes every month continues to update, and frankie did not win the contest it was in. The author stated that their is a *slight* possibility that a print company may print frankie, such as Dark Horse or Image, but for now, these eight pages are all we have of this marvelous masterpiece.
When is some new coming out? Excellent story telling!!
the art is freaking amazing, it draws you into the story, and the color contrast is a brilliant tone!
cant wait for the update
thanks!
Welcome to Zuda, Iceman!
I can't help with any art-related questions, but about how to get your comics up here: go to the top of the page, click on "submite a comic", read the contracts, and prepare a submission of 8 screans to their specifications. Then, if it's both a quality submission, and the kind of content the zuda editorial staff are looking for, it will be entered into one of the monthly competitions.
Again, welcome, and enjoy your stay!
hi guys. i like this comic, its cool how you took off from frankenstein like that. i was wondering thoug, how does all of this work? i mean, i dont draw as good as most of you guys, but i have a couple strips iv been trying to post. but how do you do those colors and how do you even get it up here? im really confused.
I keep comeing back to Frankie. It's just so amazing. I can't wait to see more in print. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
Manny, I would definitely cop this if it hit the stores.
Interesting set up. I like your art style Can't wait to read more.
Thanks guys for the words of encouragement.
I wept bitter salty tears after loosing this wonderful contest. Then i harvested those tears and sold the salt to rich men who salt their food with the tears of lesser men.

It was a very cool experience to be a part of this. I have other ideas that I'll be submitting soon.
As far as what i'm going to do with Frankie...
I don't know yet. I already do a webcomic, so I don't have a ton of time to add this to my hobby list right now. I might try and pitch this to an Image/Dark Horse or whomever. But that still means I gotta draw it. :)
And yes, lastbluefilmfox, I did write and draw it. Thanks for the compliment.
Frankie will reappear, sometime, hopefully sooner than later.
I joined this site right now because of this comic I love the art its amazing and the inner monolouge is brilliant. If you wrote and drew this comic you are a deadly force to be recond with. I write but I cant draw to save my life.
Let us know what the future holds for Frankie! I can not wait for it continue.
Really wish this would've gotten an instant win , it'd be great if you continued elsewhere.
A special thanks to all of you who supported this sneak peek.
Hopefully I will continue this else where. I am still producing my own web comics and will still be doing that. I love the frankie story and if I can buckle down and do it, you may just see it in the future.
Thanks!!
Would you look at that. I got a pro icon by my name now. Sweet!
very good and nice layouts
I have to say, what made me want to click to view your work was the style of your drawing, its stylish...after i read it i thought the dialog was great and the way you didn't reveal who it was till the end was perfect! Keep it up mate, i cant wait to see it finished
Good Luck, I am always a fan of the Monster
I love this. This art unique and edgy, which is always welcome. And the continuation of the Frankenstein story is a wonderful avenue for some brilliant story telling. Great work. Gets my vote 100%.
Great concept - if I may suggest; your audience is most likely familiar with the story of Frankenstein's monster. Your story might benefit from opening up with a giant leap into the future of events described in Mary Shelly's masterpiece. Distancing yourself from the original, at least chronologically would allow you to jump right into the story.
A fresh point view of a old caracter... That's it?
Look out Universal!
A...Very cool first screen!
Looking foward to see more!

There is something amazing about Shelley's creation which allows almost limitless interpretations. A well done strip and I look forward to seeing where you take it.
Thanks all!
I appreciate all the kind words.
I am definetely going to push this book out into the world somehow even if it doesn't climb enough here.
I'm a terrible marketer of my own work. And by terrible i mean absolutely HORRID. My wife is also smacking me around for not pimping my own work better.
Sigh. Maybe someday i'll understandthe fine art of promotion.
Philip Schaeffer, thanks for the awesome interview. Frankie's not so bad. He's a good li'l boy.
:)
That a'boy Frankie, stick and move all the way to the top!
I want to see more! I love the twist on page 8 - I had to go back and read it again. Awesome!
Friends of Frankie, check out the comic strip format interview with your favorite "reanimated cornucopia of flesh," now online at www.knaveofkrypton.com/interviews.html.
Every fan of this comic, right now use the "send to a friend" function at the top and send it to every person you know. We can do this. Frankie deserves the top spot, and we know it, so we need to make it happen.
You know, I am really impressed by the talent this web site is showing off, and this comic is no exception. This comic is AWESOME!! I really hope we see more from this guy. The art was great and those first eight pages really have me wanting some more.
I like this a lot!I don't know what everyone is complaining about. At this point, there really are no "original" ideas...all stories draw elements from others. Its whether it tells it well or not that matters(and Frankie certainly does)
Speaking of the many different versions of Frankenstein remember Grant Morrison's version from 7 Soldiers? That was great!
wONDERFUL
I love this comic.
;D Well done Manny.
Of course, I'm a bit of a sucker for anything Frankenstein related, but I really loved this story. It's my favorite Zuda comic to date. I really enjoyed the style of artwork, the story, the dialogue, etc...it was a visual treat. It's got my top vote and a fav!
I love Sam Noir and I dig Panda Express, but while I think the art here is fantastic, I think the story needs a lot of work. Sorry, but the competition is pretty fierce, so Frankie doesn't get Frankenstein Casanova's vote. Great artwork though...
Well, there is still 2 weeks left, but I'm getting spanked something fierce. :)

It's all good. Congrats to the fellas climbing the ranks. There are a good bunch of creators here and good books.
I'm not dead yet, but I thought i'd at least poke fun at myself and my falling son Frankie.
"get up boy, get up!!! Don't you die on me, again!! FRANKIE!!!!!!!!"
I digress.
Gabriel, no problem. You've got a great classic book. I'd be proud to lose to you. :)

To speak to the "nothing new under the sun" idea...I'm a big fan of people who fully understand the lack of originality in their work. I am fully aware and embrace the lack of originality in my work. All of my published work is contrivances and cliches mashed together. The best we can do as creators is attempt to weave together tried and true ideas into our own version of it. And hope that when people read/see what you make that they get that new/unique flavor upon first inspection. There are no truly unique ideas any more, only unique ways to put them together (or so i like to tell myself).

Thanks papillonkhan. Yeah, I caught that too late. If Frankie doesn't make it here, I'll probably either try it at an Image or dark Horse, or try it online. I have a webcomic i try to post regularly (work has taken it's toll on my output there). That webcomic was also published as an OGN. I won't spam these comment threads with my other work. This site is all about the great creators here. And I'm talking about the other guys. :P
Beautiful comic, in eight pages you've managed to entice me more than anything I've read in a couple of months, on this site or otherwise. The artwork was stunningly polished and a real pleasure to look at, unlike some of the other comics I've seen here, where the art is so bad it's supposed to be either funny or artsy. Your work is a cut above the rest, more comparable to published artists than other beginners. I truly think you have a great story here, and I would be incredibly dissapointed if you did not have the opportunity to continue it. If you don't get a chance to do so on this site, I would recomend starting your own. Oh, and you've probably already seen this, but there is a typo on page six, "me" instead of "be."
And in the end, all writing is influenced by other writing. We may we think we do, but we do not exist in a creative vacuum. It's impossible. Even if "Frankie" was influenced by Koontz, which it wasn't, since the author has never read it and they have almost nothing at all in common, it shouldn't be a problem in the first place. Each and everyone one of us "rips-off" someone everytime we sit down and write. End of story.
Back to positive discussion. I love how you think for the first 7 pages that you're reading Adam's monologue, and then sudden discovery that it's actually Frankie's.
Don't mean to beat a dead horse (or monster) but I hate the word rip-off. Frankenstein's monster is a big enough concept any body can tell all kinds of different stories with it- like yours manny- which I like.
Manny, thanks for the great comments on Crooked Man. Frankie is really solid with a great graphic look. It deserves to be higher in the ranking.
Gabriel Hardman
Thanks again for all the nice comments guys.
No worries on whether or not this is your cup-o-tea.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The beaty of comics (to me) is the massive diversity of content.
I've heard people say that comparing all these different comics is like comparing apples to oranges. While I don't disagree; these comics are being judged on their ability entertain. Story quality and art quality is generally subjective, so in the end, Frankie should be judged on its ability to entertain the "masses". It definetely seems that this comic catches some people, and others not so much. I happen to very much enjoy this book (sure i made it), but i make books that I would want to read. I love getting feedback and comments.
Regarding the Koontz book thing. I've neve read a single book of his, nor watched the show they made based off his book. but I did read about his books after the "rip-off" comment was made. I don't see it. Sure i didn't read the book, but I don't see it. I'd gladly be told what the heck the similarities are. Fire away if you feel so inclined.
:)
Pretty cool idea. I thought it was slow going and up until the end I didn't really want to read on, but forced myself to so I can give everyone equal chance for my vote. Sorry to say, you didn't get it.
i'm generally averse to anybofy tampering with FRANKENSTEIN because it's essentially one of the greatest books i've ever had the pleasure of reading, but no one forced me to read this so i'ma go easy
...okay, the art is INCREDIBLE. really nice, dynamic and tonally spot-on. the title, and invocation of it, is a little jarring - 'frankie' seems to counteract the mood. also the writing is a meditation on the themes of the novel rather than a story in its own right thus far which i understand is due to the constraints of the format, but that being the case a framing device could have been used to good effect.
four stars for the art and the promising direction :D
Love the art, it really does fit the tone. I would like to see where else this goes.
