love the art very original, though the story falls a little flat due to the dialogue. I was thinking that English may not be your first language, if so, that would explain it.

The art is solid. Nice painted feel. The dialogue bubbles ruin the art though as they just look slapped on top. I'm not sold on the concept, at least at this stage and the dialogue is very poorly written. Very juvenile. Like when the guy at the table says "I'm gonna kick someone's ass!" it doesn't make sense. And "Kain Havoc" is so bad it hurts. Anyway, if the dialogue could be patched up it would go a long way.

The art here had a really weird "flat" feeling to it, as though you drew the backgrounds really small, blew them up, and then drew the characters on top of it; strange differences in detail level. The art was moderately interesting, but perhaps needed some inking over top of the colors to really "pop." Anyway, boring story. I can see why it is in last place. It took seven pages of nothing happening with characters we'll probably never see again before anything actually happened. Should have STARTED at the card game and went from there, and the text box narration just seemed to be pointing out the obvious. Not the worst thing I've ever read, but not really streamlined enough for as many pages as you're given...

Eh. This didn't capture my imagination at all. It felt very junk-manga/anime. Run of the mill. The finding of power from a mysterious source, and, in this case, a trickster of seemingly deity status. It has been done a bunch.
I will say that your artwork really sticks out. Very nice.

I don't see how anyone could debate or be offended by Illinest's Death Note comparison. He's right. It's almost instantly apparent that the creators are fans of the series. Which is fine. I'm influenced by many existing works and creators too. However, the problem with this piece, in my opinion, is that it crosses the line between "influenced by" and "genetically altered clone" one too many times. This isn't meant as a slam against its very talented creators. I just think you need to hear an honest opinion.

I like the art and I love the design for the jester guy, but I feel like this comic doesn't work for the Zuda format. Because it's a story that needs to develop and there's just not enough in eight pages to make it and I have to agree that the hook is something we've seem before in different forms, but it's common to this sort of this story in this genre. Don't get me wrong, it could be great, and I'd definitely love to see it even if it doesn't make it here.

Illinest says:

Also... I don't care for the Bottle of Awesome comparison at all. Bottle of Awesome may have an implied god-figure who dropped the item of power into the human world, but it looks pretty clear that the god in BoA is not a direct player in the story.
BoA is looking like Human vs. Human with superpowers, whereas Cards Kill (as far as I can tell) use Human vs. Human conflicts to cover up the main conflict which is Human vs. Supernatural. (Although I have to admit that the information in the synopsis is slightly in contradiction with the stated end-goal of the joker. The synopsis has Kain just becoming a hero whereas the comic itself suggests that Kain will eventually come into contact with the joker)

But according to the five basic conflict archetypes I would say that BoA is telling a completely different story from that of Cards Kill.

Illinest...really the only similarities are..."Godly being drops something to the earth that gives a human power." Which is not specific to Deathnote by anymeans. So far that's it. Heck you could even say it's similar to Bottle of Awesome.
Deathnote is about killing people by writing their names in a notebook and what that power does to humans. But REALLY its a sick ass detective story.
So in other words...cut the guy some slack, eh?

The opening could've been told better, and some of the dialogue and character interactions are a little off, but all in all this comic shows a lot of potential to be really cool. I wasn't wild about the art at first but stylisticly it really grows on you fast. The lettering needs to be fixed though, it doesn't fit the comic, it's too technical.

If you're gonna crib an idea or two, Death Note is an excellent place to start.
It's a good idea really. Death Note is such a fantastic comic and yet there's probably a good portion of the regular Zuda crowd that isn't going to be able to recognize what you're sourcing from.
I bet I could do a note for note retelling of something like Kare Kano and only a few people would even realize I was trying to put one over.

Thanks for your support and kind words guys, really appreciated. We are absolutely new in the industry, experience and suggestions come much more important to us.
We get inspiration from a lot of awesome comics, and indeed, DN is one of them. However, Cards Kill is more to be an Action/Adventure comic. This is an old version, I don't know why Zuda has not put the edited one here.
Anyway, I'd like to thank Nika and the very talented people here, you are awesome, and so is Zuda! I love this place!

Like Illinest and JeffAlbertson said, it's fairly easy to imagine where you got the inspiration for your story. Which isn't an insurmountable factor if your version stands up well enough on its own. The art is attractive and the pace sees it moving along nicely. Kain Havoc is certainly a... unique name. :) Best of luck in the comp!

I absolutely adore this comic!

First of all, I have to mention the art style. I was immediately drawn in and captivated by the dark nature of it, yet it also had something about it that was different. Wasn't very uniformed, which I found to work in its favor, actually. Totally different, dark, and really set the proper mood for the story.

Speaking of, I am fascinated to learn more about it! I think the writing is superb, and the overall premise is something that sparked my interest, and that is an under statement.

This comic has everything going for it, and I hope to God you win, because I want to see more! You got my vote, fave, and 5 star rating. Two thumbs up!
