it's time like this that i regret missing a Zuda competition. i'd have voted for OJ...

despite the verborragic dialogues, the concept and the crazy mad energy grabbed by the neck. well done!

hope you serialize it elsewhere or are given a 2nd chance here soon.

Provided that this does not make the jump up to first place today (which, in a just universe, it certainly would), you guys have to promise us to keep on keeping on with this comic. It's far too good to drop by the wayside. The people demand more!

Many thanks to all of you for checking us out and/or supporting and rooting for us! We continue to pimp OJ out wherever possible and we're trying to make a last ditch effort to storm the top 2! Also many many props to our competition. Its a pleasure to be competing with y'all! Everybody keep spreading the word and forcing your friends and family to vote for us! Things have been a bit hectic at OJ central and we have fallen behind on the blog material but head on over there to check out a character profile and some new artwork from Morgan.

Stay tuned to that very blog for what's next for Octane Jungle!

@Gnar Duce: F@*^ing @, man!
@Maxwellchris: We originally had a less intense "scratch-out" effect to censor the dialog but Zuda made us black it out completely, making us feel like William Gaines and therefore awesome.
@Frequentcontributer: the dialog in this 8 page "teaser" is mainly meant to give you a sense of the characters and some background on the world and reality we are presenting to you. Its really setting up the story, rather than being a story in and of itself. Personally I enjoy comics with a lot of text but clearly the style (as well as the dialog I write) is not for everybody. I enjoy your honesty and thanks for actually going back and reading it all, even if it didn't change your mind.

After posting my comment, I felt bad for not even finishing reading the end of the comic, so I went back and found that I was right: All of that dialogue did NOTHING to add to the story, and just took forever to read. Two pages of bickering with an old lady about what ticket to take? A whole page of two random teens talking about where they get there contraband? Oy.

The art on this comic is great, and the car chase scenes (a very hard thing to perfect in comics) in the beginning are expertly handled. The pizza delivery reveal gag was a good one, but then there was just soooooooo much dialogue. Even during the chase scenes at the beginning there was a lot of expository "voice over", but the last half of the comic was, for me, unreadable. I skipped the last three pages because I just couldn't take having to read that terrible, terrible dialogue. There was just plain too much of it, and WAY too much "futuristic" slang. Sorry, but you lost me.

Also, this makes me want to read that old Mike Baron/Steve Rude story from PC Comics about a encyclopedia salesman in post-apocalyptic suburbia... Now THAT was funny.

Funny how ultra-violence and gore is fine for Zuda, but "bad words" are not, eh? Was that the creator's choice here, or was that a result of Zuda's policies? Great strip, gave it 5 stars.

Bravo. Bravo. Awesome angsty style and nice car chases. It reminds me a bit of Rebel (from Heavy Metal), with shades of Mad Max and Lobo. Nice storytelling, although I did get lost with a couple of balloon placements in the pizza kitchen and rednecks' lounge, but that's just being overly picky. Overall it's a colour orgy of blood splatter and octane fumes. Love it. Fantastic!

P.S. I really, really don't agree with RKB's review. All in all this is probably the strongest comic teaser this month, save for the distractingly censored text. Gorgeous art, solid dialogue and a high-octane pace which is perfectly appropriate for obvious reasons. ;) Good luck in the comp, I know certainly want to read more.

In an all-too-plausible dystopian future, the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-killing corporate monolith - The Motherbrain - has virtually dismantled the free market with it's monopolistic vice grip on all viable goods and services. The incorrigible crew of Doc's Pie Hole put their necks on the line night after night in the pursuit of preserving legitimate, free enterprise.
A surly band of outlaws, miscreants and reprobates they may be, but Doc's crew gets the job done every time. They take pride in keeping the contraband economy rolling and remain unflappable in the face of gang warfare, police brutality and the countless other imperilments lurking in the city's seedy underbelly. Mind-blowing danger, reckless speed and seemingly insurmountable jeopardy are all in a days work for these, our tenacious protagonists. But the sudden emergence of an enigmatic villain is about to propel the denizens of the Pie Hole into a maelstrom of violence and duplicity, which even they might not be able to shoot their way out of.
Blood will be shed! Cars will be crashed! Sh*t will get blown up! Limbs will be liberated from bodies! Secrets will be revealed! It's all part for the course in the Octane Jungle!
