Absolute Magnitude
All Captain Pace and the crew of the Stormbrew want is to be allowed to hunt for treasure in peace. But Minister Zel and his SecuriZone forces are intent on catching them and burning their brains out. A little harsh, but then Zel knows that Captain Pace is secretly the rebelling heir to the SecuriZone royal family. A homecoming for Pace would mean big changes in the SecuriZone, like common people finally getting a fair shake, leading to the loss of Zel's wealth and position.
Captain Pace has come to a planet with failing gravity in search of a gem made of pure light, one of the legendary Wandering Stars. But holding onto this priceless treasure may prove more difficult than acquiring it in the first place. Humans have colonized over half the galaxy, evolving different forms to cope with the various extreme environments in which they thrive. But no one has ever found signs of intelligent extra-terrestrial life.
Not until now…

The currently-competing comic Sci-fi Drive-by has some bold predictions about the near-future. Including, if you zoom in on the shelf behind the librarian in the library scene, a print version of Absolute Magnitude!
I absolutely love the hairdo of these folks!
It seems like it's going to be a hard month for the Stormbrew crew!
corchmars: Yeah, our heroes might be in real trouble here. Part of what Martin and I want to do with Absolute Magnitude is tell a kind of story they never could have done on Star Trek or Firefly or even Battlestar Galactica: as fans of space opera stories we've come to view our favorite crews as little families, but is that really how they think of themselves?
The crew of the StormBrew is in a tough situation, and things will get darker before they see the light. Do they stay together afterwards? Are any of them even still alive afterwards? I hope you'll stick around to find out the answers!
Arborean: A few things are going on here: the planet we're on is failing gravitationally and beginning to spin apart, so the islands are quite high in the atmosphere (so high that continuing to breathe will become an issue for our heroes). Additionally, the gem Pace & co. came to treasure-hunt is having an unknown effect on things.
The StormBrew was indeed in a very low orbit -- and now Minister Zel's ship is in an equally low orbit. A full half of the StormBrew crashed into the temple on the island. The other half may have been destroyed, or -- alternately -- it may still be up there.
@arborean, yeah, ship is blown up...two crew dead already...where is the story is go from here???
@corchmars, yeah it sucks that they lost their ship. Was that the same ship that fell down on them? It must have been in really low orbit! But I guess since they dropped down on powered baloons, it probably was within the atmosphere.
Thanks for waiting for us, bluephlegm! There was no delay -- it just takes a while for the new series to roll out here on Zuda. RockStar, which won the month before we did, rolled out in December, and Goldilock, which won the month after we did, should roll out about a month from now.
Thanks again for all your help back in August, RD.RICCI1971!
Cool!!
i was waiting for it like crazy.. how come it took so long?
Thanks, Mike -- it goes well with our unbalanced personalities!
Great update - I like the unbalanced "Unnh!" - clever :-)
Thanks for everyone's support!
Robert and I were just in the University of Alberta Alumni publication...

Great start! You know something is good when you wish there was more. I like the whole feel - art and writing - and will pleasantly wait for more!
Thanks for the well-wishes and warm welcome everyone! We're putting everything we've got into this story and striving mightily to live up to your expectations.

been waitin' for this one! <_>
I can't believe their ship is blown up...that usually happens at the END of a sci-fi story...not at the beginning!
It's great to be back! Thank you all for your comments!!!
This is great stuff. I'm stoked to see it is up and running.
Also, the Absolute Magnitude logo at the top of Zudacomics.com? AWESOME.
I've been so looking forward to you guys coming back!
We are so happy to be back...
Welcome back!
Sweet, I am glad we get to see this story continue. I've been waiting for this!
Glad to see this updating :) I'm with MichaelJasper on the seamless transition - kudos!
Nice! Welcome back!
So nice to see page 9 at last! I like how the story continues seamlessly from the cliffhanger of page 8. Great stuff. Congrats on going weekly!
Nice work. Great action. Welcome back you guys!
Yes, it was a blustery Wednesday when team Absolute Magnitude invented bacon. I thought it should be something you rolled up and smoked, but Martin came up with the idea of making it crispy...
Very glad to be rolling out the new pages! Should be a new one here every Friday.
Say hello to us here:

Thanks for the kind words, LukeCage! We plan to start regular updates on January 22nd, so hope to see you then.
michael: I remember that story! It was fun seeing the whales on the malfunctioning Enterprise-A. My story was in Strange New Worlds 8, and was about Doctor Phlox from Enterprise.
Hey Robert -- that's very cool! My story was about Scotty and the whales, and it was a blast to write. Small world(s), eh? :)
Graet Art, great story, great lettering. A masterpiece.
O.K. from Italy.
Thanks, michael! By the way, we're both Strange New Worlds alum.
I like a comic that's not afraid to blow stuff up and kill/maim their main characters!
michael: We've come in at the beginning of the end for our little band of intrepid treasure-hunters. Things get even worse than they did that time Captain Pace locked the keys inside the StormBrew and had to wait four hours for a space tow-truck...
CA3: Thanks for having a look; hopefully we'll be able to hook you more successfully once new pages start going live in late January.
The synopsis is interesting, it's just a shame the 8 pages we can read right now don't help build ones interest. I hope that you get a chance to continue to develop this story, best of luck to you.
Wow -- talk about making things MUCH WORSE for your characters! I mean, on page 8, that's a chunk of their ship, right. Looking forward to how they deal with that on page 9! :)
Timputt: Thanks! We have no confirmation by now, but we think Absolute Magnitude will relaunch in january!
instant fav! When can we expect more of this?
Davidlevack... I agree and thank you for telling me your encounter. I think we all want to belong and work with what we have to get what we want. Love your comic, good luck this month.
Kuen, when I was doing portfolio reviews at San Diego Comic Con a young lady showed me her inking portfolio, I forget now, but she had lost her hands, and she excellent. I agree with "other-ly abled". Cheers!
