Its name is spoken in hushed tones. Campfire tales tell of a spectral avenger cursed to walk the Earth and exact bloody revenge. "THE CORPSE IS UPON YOU!" a horse cry howls through lonely canyons and across parched salt flats.
It has been walking for 60 years; saving the innocent and murdering the guilty. Pitiless retribution doled out by a six-shooter, eternally clutched in a rotted fist! Killin' and rightin' wrongs, It is hunted by some, and feared by all. The vampire bats, eerie winged devil things, help point The Corpse and its phantasmal six-shooter towards the retribution it MUST dole out. Aided by The Bear, a beast that commands respect, it alone would unnerve the prairies... but when The Corpse comes to town upon The Bear's back...there ain't no chance in this ninth circle of hell of an outcome other than bloody.
The Corpse is the incarnation of all that is terrible. Haunted by Its task, It cannot waiver. It must continue to roam, no matter the cost. The same elemental force that drives It's hip cannon, gravitates It towards the weird and lulls the grotesque to it. Giant Crabs, Hoodoo Dinosaurs, Time Travel, Indians, Aliens, and beyond. All must reckon with THE CORPSE!
Great Stuff, Man! I like the succinct text boxes, have written that way myself before. I would like to read more.

The last page is a brilliant idea. In fact setting up the whole EPIC with just this simple origin is a great way to go.

Re: Matthew - My problem isn't with screen 8. Screen 8 is actually my favorite screen. My problem is with the previous seven screens. If you'd told an interesting short story in your first seven screens and then screen 8 was this teaser page I would be 100% behind this comic. But you didn't really give me anything in those first seven pages that I couldn't have gleaned reading your short synopsis from the competition page, or even the title really.

I get what you're saying about how you don't want to pack a 22 page story into a 8 page spread, but I think that's the whole point of the competition/challenge. To see if you can give us a fleshed out story in 8 pages. I love the idea, but that's all it is. An idea.

@kingofsnake - All valid critisims. But heres my thinking. Zuda only allows 8 screens. The actual competition IS a competition on an 8 screen ad. I think the last page is a way of showing you just how fun the comis will be. I really didnt want to overload the 8 screens with too much verbage. Personally for me I zone out on that...it becomes a chore to digest a 22 page comic in 8 screens...its a mistake alot of creators make on here. BUt thats just me. All I can say is if the Coprse wins you'll get tthe most fun and original comic you can ask for. :)

What Matt said. It's his character. I don't see why you need to use a pre-existing character for an entirely new storyline.
I have the same problem with this that alot of the other critics have had. There isn't really anything here that would suggest how good this comic is going to be. It's really just an ad for a comic. It's like you had this idea of a zombie cowboy riding a bear, and instead of fleshing a story out around the idea you just left it at that. The art is good, it's an interesting style that you make work well for the theme. But I just can't make a judgement on it because I have no idea what this comic will be like.
Love the art and writing style, gives it a campy feel, but the good kind of campy. One of my favorites.
@LLC - I guess if its a fan thing and not for profit then go an do what ya want...if you want to make it for xbox live thats a whole other story lol ... now back to Corpse pimping!

The art and premise is what got my vote, but I loved little touches like The Corpse being referred to as "it", and as others have mentioned, the teaser at the end. My criteria is pretty much which comic really makes me want to see more, and that was definitely the case here. Great work.

Zombie comics are cool. This one is cool too.
I love, scratch that......LOVE the artwork. It's creepy, dark and yet somehow uplifting all at once. The story had me building to a steady laugh pretty strongly and with more space i could see this easily being a "must read". The last page was a bit of turnoff however, especially after such a strong buildup. I would've preferred less of a straight forward ad, but still doesn't take away from the comic itself. My nether regions are blue as the deep blue see. Great job!
Love the desert theme and style - very cool together. Your the master of splats, and bats.
