In Earth's future, Amber Hale embodies glamour, elegance, and sex appeal. She’s a household name beloved around the globe. But when her true nature as a product of Thane Enterprises is exposed, the world's admiration turns to controversy and fear.
Now facing dubious notoriety, she struggles to find her own soul. Does she even have one? Should she exist? Does she have a purpose? Surely, her creator, Kael Thane, must know, but he refuses to tell her. Is he protecting her from some dark and horrible truth? Perhaps the mysterious assassins pursuing her have the answers…
Written by Daren Strange and Lewis Walker, and illustrated by Josh Howard, creator of "Dead @ 17", "Amber Hale, Supermodel" tells the story of a woman searching for herself in a world where the human soul hangs on the line and an ever-looming darkness approaches from the shadows.

We need an artist for an upcoming comic book project. Please contact me and let me know if you'd be interested in taking on something new. admin@ministerfortson.com Thanks.
Been awhile since I've logged on! That wasn't the plan, but time has a way of escaping you sometimes. We're currently in rewrites for Amber Hale Issue 1 with plans for Josh to finish the remaining 14 pages sometime in 2010. Not much news, I know, but we appreciate all the interest in this story!
Great Stuff! Loved how all the fight scenes caught the action at the frame where she looked super model sexy...brilliant idea! worked great! (Wish I'd a thought of it!)
Love it
AMMMMMMMMMAAAAAAAZZZZZZIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGG!!!!!
-acid-k, Sorry you feel that way. To each their own.
Guys, i'm sorry, but it takes three people working on it and you come up with that??? and you have a rating of four stars??? i'm sorry but this is just plainly bad!!!
-RKB: Thanks for the review. I agree on pretty much all of it. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I've linked your page from our site.

-actionchick: Thanks again for all your support. I look forward to seeing what happens with Amber too!
Month's over. Your comic still looks great. I look forward to seeing where Amber goes from here. All the best.

No worries, Bryy. We were just extremely puzzled as to how we were coming across as holier-than-thou. It has most definitely not been intentional.

As far as marketing methods, we'd be interested in hearing what you think could be improved or changed. Maybe your suggestions will help us reach more people next time. We can always be reached at email@BlackHaloEntertainment.com
Even though I've been pretty upfront in my language about the comic and your marketing methods, I respect you guys for putting your work out there in front of millions.
Thanks, Adam. That's good to hear! We've had to defend our position on our premise more than once, so it's good to hear when people think it's a GOOD thing. HAHA! =)

Thanks and glad you liked it! There will definitely be more Amber in the future. We'll keep ya posted.
Guys, I'll admit the supermodel aspect sold me a long time ago on Amber Hale. lol :)
Whatever the outcome of the competition, I wish you guys luck with Black Halo Entertainment and everything else you do. I'll hope for more Amber cause she's cute :)
-grobert79: I just realized I never thanked you for your comments! I've been trying so hard to reply to everyone. I can't believe I let yours slip by! Sorry about that.

I'm bummed it wasn't to your liking, but we really appreciate you taking the time to comment!
NEW INTERVIEW!
***
I just did an interview with Gus Higuera at Original Wonders. In it, I talk about our future plans for Amber Hale and other upcoming stories in the Black Halo universe. If you’re interested in checking it out, this is the direct link: http://www.originalwonders.com/wondercomics/wonder-of-comics-interview-with-may-2009-zuda-contestant-amber-hale-supermodel

(Note that if you’ve already read our interview from last week with ActionFlickChick (http://actionflickchick.com/superaction/amberhale), 1 or 2 of the questions/answers are the same, but the majority of the interview is exclusive.)

Thanks everyone!
-ashcrow: Thank you for your comments. Glad you're enjoying it so far. Once we get the story moving further, a lot of questions will be answered.
***
-DShide: Thanks for checking it out. And who's to say she doesn't have tattoos? Maybe they just aren't in places you can see them, hehe. And, yes, we'll definitely be delving into more details as the story continues. It'd be no fun to give all the answers from the get-go. =)
She should have some tattoos. Other than that, pretty interesting. Not too sure what's going on, though I guess that comes later.
I see good potential in the story but I feel there was much missing in the pages (IE moving the story fast). Reading the synopsis helps answer some of the questions but I wish I could have read that in the art itself.
It was worth reading and I'd like to see what happens next :-)!
-Yarr: Thanks for your comments. Very cool you read the synopsis! (I'm not sure many people do, hehe.) We're really looking forward to telling the rest of this story, particularly the last few pages of Issue 1. If we can't take the top spot on Zuda, then we'll be continuing it in print form. I don't have more details as of yet, but hopefully will soon!

-josiah: Thanks for taking a look. I must admit, Kael Thane is probably my fav char in this series. I can't wait to get into telling his part of the story. He's got a lot more to him than meets the eye.
I find myself wanting to know about Kael. Interesting feller, that one.
The eight pages seem a bit weak, but the synopsis convinced and hooked me. I think this one has good potential.
Hey guys, would you like to do an interview for comicnews.info. I've already done one for Lilly of the Valley and Beertown B'hoys. Check them out on my site originalwonders.com visit my contact page if you're interested.
Hey Frequent. Page 1 as a cover is because this is a full 22-page comic. It may seem like a wasted opportunity, but there is actually a really long story as to why we did it this way--one I won't get into here.
***
As far as the story being "dumb", I'm sorry to hear that's your opinion. But it is what it is. Maybe our interview at ActionFlickChick.com would interest you as it sheds more light on where this is all going--but, of course I'll leave that to your discretion.)
***
But I must point out, and if you read the talent info, Josh had nothing to do with the writing. The only "dumb" writers here are me and Lewis. If you're a fan of Josh's work I wouldn't let your perception of our comic tarnish that.
Isn't Josh Howard a pro artist already? If he's the same guy, he seems to be slumming, here... The story is dumb, with a lot of wasted opportunity to give us some more insights (screen 1 as a cover?). While leaving the plot a bit vague might have been the intent, as it is, I just don't care to read any more about the incredibly 2-dimensional characters. Anyway, some of the art and panel flow was confusing (Amber sliding under the door and the fact that page 6 read like an open magazine spread...). Not great.
Heya MVB! Well, I love that movie, so yeah, maybe it was subconscious! Although, as cool as Amber might be, I don't think she could ever pull off "Blue Steel". =)
It's like you watched Zoolander and said to yourselves "That's a brilliant plotline for a serious comic!" All the elements are there: the day spa, mugatu type chappie and bizarrely well trained supermodel. All thats left is for her to pull out Magnum on the next page to disarm all the bad guys.
Our recent interview with www.ActionFlickChick.com is now up on their site. Please take a minute to check it out. For those readers wondering where the "Amber Hale, Supermodel" story is headed, you might find the first and last questions especially informative.

If you missed AFC's exclusive preview of our upcoming "Reign" comic, there's a link to that as well.

Thanks again to everyone for their support!
-zerocalcare: Thanks for the comments. I'm a newbie to the "Dead@17" world, ironically. But I've got the Ultimate on pre-order and I can't wait to read the whole thing!
***
-BlueMaxx: Thank you for your comments, sir. Sorry it wasn't quite to your liking, though. Regarding the part about "relying on the art and premise": we had Issue 1 finished before Josh ever drew a page, so I have to disagree there. However, as we're learning this month, people aren't willing to trust the premise. They want to know everything within the first 8 pages. It's totally cool if people feel that way, but knowing the rest of the story, that's not the right way for us to tell it. Gotta stick our guns on this one, regardless of the contest. =)

-slidestudios: Love the pic! I commented more on your comic page.
Amber hanging off a car...check out my Zuda May Crossover poster http://slidestudios.deviantart.com/art/Zuda-May-09-Crossover-122089727
Far too linear. And, I'm not talking page count. Although, that first page really could've been used for at least a narrative box. Seemed like the story was leaning too much on the great art and synopsis, and wasn't trying to "be" much.
I'm a great fan of dead@17 so I'm happy to see JH on zuda:)
i have to say that the story didn't really caught me but i think it's the usual problem when you have only 8 pages... good luck anyway!
-dnotz: Glad you like it and thanks for the comments.

-Darius: Although we always appreciate feedback, "meh" does us no good. If you can constructively tell us what turned you off about Amber's story it may help us improve going forward.
meh
The art is bad ass! With an excellent story! Nice work!
Get an exclusive preview of our next Zuda submission, "Reign", at www.ActionFlickChick.com! Along with "Amber Hale, Supermodel", Reign is story in our Black Halo Series universe. Watch for our upcoming interview with Action Flick which will give hints to how these comics tie together!
To be completely honest, I'm not sure if this did it for me.
Then again, that's just my personal taste.
evanalmighty - thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
***************************
famished - As admitted, there is a lot going on in the first 8 pages. We'd hoped to spark genuine interest while providing some enjoyment within the 8 page limitation. Thank you for your comments. It helps to hear all opinions!
The story started of in a bit of an awkward position for me that I don't think allowed enough pull to draw me in. The 8 pages is a bit rough on this entry as I think it could have used a bit more direction and focus.
Good stuff, guys. Love it.
I hear what you're saying, Jorge. Appreciate you taking the time to make honest comments.
Nothing about this entry felt especially unique to me. The artwork was consistent but not strong enough that it would hook me and the story felt like the beginning of something that's been done many times in comics. I'm not trying to slam your work. It's clear you all put a lot of time and effort into this but as an 8-page introduction this may have not been the best/strongest place to start. I think, given the way this competition works, you sometimes need to start in the middle. That way we the readers can get a sense of what the story is REALLY going to be like. If you win, you can always double back and tell other parts out of sequence. I don't think you want to leave readers imagining where the story is going, you need to take them there in the first eight pages. Best of luck!
-specialagent: I can't get enough of them either. =)
***
-Snuffle: Thanks for checking it out! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. And, yes, if all goes to plan we'll be delivering a pretty unique story.
***
-snuffleup: Wow, 2 "snuffles" in a row. That's gotta be some kind of record. Thanks for checking it out. Love the name.
***
-srjr: Thanks kindly.
Looking good and sounds interesting.
Stellar work. rly love the art and teh story looks like its going somewhere intriguing. great job guys.
Hmm... I've never been too interested in the sexay-butt-kicking-scantily-clad-chick stuff, mainly because it's so often only an excuse for lots of gratuitous T&A shots. That said, the pacing on this was excellent; I continued turning pages because I was interested in what happened next. I like the art a lot more than I expected to and I'll admit to being curious about the overall plot. Something different, you say? This intrigues me... ^__^
Oh, also: the piercings are awesome. I'm a sucker for lots of metal in da head.
You have my attention! I can't get enough of Josh Howard gurrrls!;p
DonRomano: Sorry to hear the story wasn't to your liking, but we really do appreciate the comments!

To answer some of your questions, I can say this: Amber is not a supersoldier, nor is the story leading toward the supersoldier/cyborg plot device. As far as what makes this different? I guess that depends on what you've seen or read before. I can understand that with only these 8 pages to go on, it may not look all that original. However, and maybe this is a bold statement to make, I promise you that once we get into the heart of the story, Amber's inception and the means by which she's able to do the things she does will be a complete surprise. I'd even go so far to say, I've never seen it done before. (And please don't take my comments as arrogance or ego. It's just the simple promise of some unknown storytellers hoping to bring something fun and unique to the table.)
Yet another story about a supermodel superhero/ super soldier? Unfortunately, this doesn't answer my question of what would make this different from other comics of the sort. Is it her character? Is it the villain? Is it the circumstances around her? This felt jumbled to me, although I guess its pretty much impossible to really set a story up in 8 pages. This didn't wow me though.
Thanks a lot, Drnorge! Love the Hawk Man avatar by the way.
