High Moon

Werewolves (and a whole lot more) in the Old West.
A grumbly, bounty-hunter, Matthew Macgregor, investigates a series of strange happenings in the dusty Texas town of Blest - where drought has brought famine and hardship to most of the town and surrounding ranches. Unfortunately, that's the least of the town's worries! While the summer heat pushes the mercury toward further unbearable degrees during the day, the nights are haunted by strange, unnatural creatures roaming the darkness.
While Macgregor, a former Pinkerton agent, seeks to uncover the towns dark secrets, he tries desperately to keep his own hidden - secrets of a past steeped in witchcraft and the supernatural. When the sun sets it'll be a showdown at High Moon.
From the horrors of Blest, Texas to the mountainous mysteries of Ragged Rock, Oklahoma, werewolf-hunter Macgregor investigates a series of murders following a bizarre train robbery. But, do his true motivations belie a sinister past? Soon, the town murders become the least of his worries as he finds himself caught in a vendetta, forced to do battle with a technological monstrosity. As he confronts his own dark origins, Macgregor must make the ultimate decision: live like a beast, or die like a man?

Im really glad to see a new post thanx.
217 has the coolest creature design I've seen in a good long while. This is such a great comic!
woah! dayum.
That first panel on page 220 is quite awesome. Love the light spilling out from under his eyepatch. Looking forward, as always, to MORE.
Wonderful and Inspiring!
Double WOAH! Didn't see that coming, that's an awesome creature there. But I hope Red is okay. He's one of the best designed wolves I've seen in years. Great work :)
Fixed! Totally ruined that big splash page reveal for me, but it's still awesome.
Caanan -- that's odd, but I'm sure it'll get fixed in the morning. Thanks for the heads up.
Erm. Latest pages seem to be repeating themselves?
I just caught up on nearly 60 pages of High Moon. Great stuff. You guys are a real inspiration. Keep the good stuff coming. (o:
Love the HIGH MOON!
Re: Missdove's 1/1/10 post...No matter which side of the issue you stand on, Missdove indirectly brings up a good point: THE VALUE OF CLEAR AND CONCISE WRITING.
If anyone's interested, I've posted some thoughts on the subject within the context of Missdove's post and Dave's response over on the zuda msg boards under the heading 'Zudite Berryhill's tips for writers and artists who would be writers'
Make mine Zuda!

witless, you may have missed the note further down. Steve, Scott, and I took some time off during the holidays to spend time with our families. I believe normal updates resume next week. As far as 217, is concerned -- the issue that particular reader had is explained on that page, which means it'll be coming up shortly - so stay tuned.
Is it just me or have there been no new pages added? All I can get is up to 208 but I see in one comment to go to 217.
Epic stuff!!!!!
On page 208 which tragedy is she referring to, the death of Molly or the current condition of her Uncle?
Emma is speaking -dramatically- lumping all of the smaller transgressions (Molly's death and Edmund's fall) into one larger, singular Shakespearean tragedy.
On page 208 which tragedy is she reffering to, the death of Molly or the current condition of her Uncle?
HIGH MOON requires a close reading. Like most serialized fiction, the small stories are part of a larger whole.
Who took the girl from the house?
Bats took her. Conroy saved her. (Page 43)
Why did Mac Mk I cook & eat a werewolf?
He was starving.
Why did it kill Mac Mk I to have his throat cut, but Mac Mk II can be impaled & shot through the chest & not die?
Addressed (p. 149). Explained (shortly).
Should we think Mac Mk II is possessed by Mac Mk I, or carrying on his work out of a sense of duty?
Explained. (p. 217)
What was going on with the hoodoo lady? Who was supposed to be the man that owned her?
Conroy did. Google 'black slave owners.'
Why in the world did carnies rob a train?
They were poor, found something, tried to profit. (Page 70)
Did Mac Mk I get reincarnated as 'Red? Why does it have horns?'
Part of a longer story.
Is there extra material available elsewhere that makes the plot of this series make sense? The art is cool as hell but the story is so disjointed. After each arc ends I'm left thinking 'So wait, what the hell was that about? Who took the little girl from the house in Blest in the first place? Why did Macgregor Mk I cook and eat a werewolf? Why did it kill Macgregor Mk I to have his throat cut, but Macgregor Mk II can be full-on impaled and shot straight through the chest and not die? Are we supposed to think Macgregor Mk II is possessed by the spirit of the original Macgregor, or just carrying on his work out of a sense of duty or obligation? What was going on with the hoodoo lady? Who was supposed to be the man that owned her? Why in the world did carnies rob a train in the first place? Did Macgregor Mk I get reincarnated as 'Red' and why the hell does it have horns?'
I'm sorry, I don't want to be a jerk, but I have an MA in English and I can't understand this story.
i loved this comic so much i brought the graphic novel from barnes and noble excellent art and story
Gorgeous!!! I especially love the coloring. Keep up the good work.
Ok, so i'm reading this comic "Hulk Winter Guard" and I completely pass the page, detailing the writers and artists, and I start pa rousing the book. I thought to myself, hey self this artwork looks extremely familiar. You scallywags are doing that comic as well. That is awesome ....
I just read all 208 pages in one shot... wow, love the monsters, love the story, love the good and bad guys/girls, did I mention I love the monsters!
Fantastic twists and turns here. I always say it's tough to make comics that are genuinely creepy, but you guys do a good job of it. Also... Box 13 is awesome. Keep up the good work
I keep waiting for the Bobby on Cowboy shoot out but those brits don't do guns.

Loving the change of locale this season.
I think a certain cable network should take the sets of their defunct western series and try making this into a series, especially with everyone supernatural gaga thanks to a book I refuse to name at this time between day and night.
damn! i cant click to page 209! nice work guys!
Thanks, David. I have a tendency to overanalyyze. This season, I'm just going to enjoy the ride. On a side note, I got two people to pick up the book who weren't big on reading it online. They weren't disappointed. :)
Theories and observations are welcomes as long as you provide some spoiler space.
Good stuff. I love how you are incorporating elements from famous literary works and legends. I'm trying to be good this year (Santa is coming) and not post my theories and observations as much.
This is such a great riveting story and your artwork is beautiful. Gritty, textural and then gothic at times, I admire your draftsmanship and lighting. The tonal drop-out creates a dark horror mood yet I can almost smell all the wood in town and reach to wipe all the dust out of my eyes like I'm in a Sergio Leone movie, it's so atmospheric. Love your work.
Thank you all for the continued support and kind words. As the holidays approach, Steve, Scott, and I will be taking a couple of weeks off to spend time with our family -- but rest assured -- we've got plenty of twists and turns around the corner! So, stay tuned!
David: love the new developments and can appreciate the opening up of the meta-story and this arc.
Steve: great color palette.
I am really enjoying the new screens!! Mr.Ellis, your storytelling techniques only get better and better!!!
I didn't realize the flow between the last two panels. Now that I do, I'm even more impressed.
Dig the two page spread and the new monster. In the environment, can't help but think of Mr. Hyde.
Awesome! Love the last 2 screens (203-204)!
you guys rock, this comic is B.A.
Each page leaves me hungry for me. Great work guys, keep it up. Steve your artwork could not be better suited for the story David is weaving here. A true collaboration if I ever saw one.
This is increible, really amazing, totally inspiring! Congratulations on getting the harvey award!
On behalf of everyone at HIGH MOON, I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a very Happy Halloween!
The series has maintained it's high level of quality. Kudos guys.
You're kicking tail on these pages, Steve. Beautiful, brooding atmospheric backgrounds setting a nice visual compliment to the story Dave is laying down here. Keep it up, guys.
So happy to see this updating on the regular. Can't wait for the throw down that seems to be a comin! When you stop and think about it, it was a bit inevitable.
steve your art keeps getting better and better!
There's something about Emma's eyes that creep me out. She reminds me of Raven - there's a lot more going on with this girl than meets the eye, I suspect.
The story arc is turning out to be the best High Moon, yet, Gentlemen...and with "Lucy" and "Elizabeth" running around, a certain infamous nobleman can't be far away ;)
Dwight - which page of the four that we updated today did you like the most ;-)
Another excellent page. Well done, gents!
thanks Jaeger2 those are some pretty good names to be among...
Awesome. The characters in this comic are some of the finest I have seen and are my favorites since Yorick Brown and Jesse Custer. You guys also picked an awesome time peroid. Great work. Love the art, love the literature.
