- How do I help a comic win the competition?
There are a number of ways to help your favorite comic win a competition.
The most direct way is by VOTING for it! The vote button is on the Competition Page and on the Comic Information drop-down on the Comic Page itself.
You can also help a comic by making it one of your FAVORITES or by giving it a high RATING. The favorites button and a five-star rating scale are in the Comic Information section of the Comic Page. Even VIEWING and COMMENTING helps us determine which comic is ultimately going to be number one!
Finally, if you're really dedicated, you can download a banner from our Support Page to post on your blog or personal web page. Nothing helps out a comic like bringing in a new audience that can also Read, Favorite, Rate, Comment and especially Vote!- Why can't I register?
OR Why haven't I received my Registration e-mail?
Some people are having trouble registering for Zuda — specifically, they are not receiving a confirmation e-mail. This is because some email systems are intercepting the confirmation email as spam and preventing it from being delivered. Your confirmation e-mail should appear within a few minutes of registration; if it doesn't, then it's likely you've encountered this problem.
This problem seems to be occurring with users attempting to register using email addresses from Comcast.
What should you do? Check your spam folder. If it's not there, you may be able to get help from your email provier. You should also send us a detailed message (including the email address you're attempting to register with) through the Feedback section of the site. The additional information may help us track the bug down more quickly.- Are there rules for the Competition?
- Yes, there sure are. You can read them right here.
- Do I need to include credits in the artwork of my submission?
Nope. Credits, a copyright statement and a synopsis of your story are handled elsewhere in the submissions process and are displayed separately from the comic artwork.
- I'd like to read and review the contracts before I submit my work. Are they available?
Yup. You can read the Submission Agreement, the Rights Agreement and the Services Agreement at any time. Each covers a different aspect of the submissions process and what happens should your comic be selected for ongoing publication. As with any legally binding document, we encourage you to have them reviewed by a lawyer if you're at all serious about submitting your work to Zuda Comics.
- Am I allowed to vote in a competition more than once?
No. You only get one vote per competition; however, we understand that this is a subjective experience you may wish to change your vote if something else strikes your fancy more. Because of this, you are allowed to change your vote before the end of the competition. If you change your vote you will in effect be “un-voting” for your original selection and switching your one vote to your new selection.
- How frequently can I submit comics?
You can submit a comic as often as you like; however, you can only submit one comic at a time. That comic must be evaluated (and potentially run through a competition) before a new one can be submitted.
- How often are the comics updated?
Zuda holds a competition once a month. Each month there will be ten new comics available for readers to evaluate, discuss and vote upon. In addition, the winning comic from each month goes on to become a new, ongoing series. For each ongoing series, the Zuda editorial staff works with the creative team of that series to determine the schedule that best suits its unique needs.
- Does Zuda accept submissions from users outside the United States?
Yes, we do. But there are a few US States we have our eyes on. I'm talking about you, New Jersey!
- Why are Zuda comics a 4:3 aspect ratio?
The 4:3 aspect ratio is one of the entertainment industry's standard sizes, although it hasn't seen much use in comic books. However, it is a frequently used broadcast format. It works for most television screens and computer monitors and, for Zuda, that means you can read comics without scrolling up and down. It is conveniently adaptable for print collections (of either horizontal format or vertical format printing) and, with a little adjusting, most cell phone and handheld devices.
- Do all Zuda creators get the same contracts?
Yes they do - everyone submitting comics to Zuda goes through the same process and agrees to the same Submission Agreement. In addition, everyone that gets selected for onsite publication is offered the same Rights and Services agreements.
- Is there an age limit for submitting comics?
Yes. In order to submit comics to Zuda you must be at least 18 years old.
- Can I submit a black and white comic?
Yes, of course. Zuda is interested in publishing high quality comics of all genres, styles and techniques.
- Are there any limits on when I can submit a comic?
No, there aren't. Registered users can submit a comic 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Am I allowed to submit a comic based on a character, plot or story that I have previously published?
Yes, however you must disclose how and where your comic was previously published and must be able to vouch that the comic is original to you and does not violate any existing copyright, trademark or contract rights. These conditions are fully explained in our Rights Agreement.
- Does Zuda publish comics that could be considered "Rated R" or with subject matter designed for mature readers?
Yes we do, however we understand that not everyone wants to or, in the case of minors, should be allowed to view such material. As a result we will be putting filtering technology in place that can screen out mature content because of a users age or preferences.
- How can I submit a Postcard?
The Zuda Postcards were first distributed at the 2007 Comic-Con International in San Diego and, since then, have been passed out at selected comic book conventions. Check the Zuda Blog for information about upcoming conventions near you!
- Who is Zuda anyway?
Good question. Ron Perazza acts as the Editorial Director, Kwanza Johnson is the one and only Zuda editor, Dominika Denoyelle his able editorial assistant, Dave McCullough is the technical mastermind behind it all and Richard Bruning does something but we’re not quite sure what.
